I usually try to do more upstrokes than downstrokes (or put relatively more force in the upwards movement) to alleviate the problem you're describing. Maybe slightly palm muting the open string so it doesn't ring out?

So soldering the claw is going to be a bitch, too bad but thanks for the info so far. So I would need to: get the claw hella hot - melt solder onto it - put the claw around the pup after cooling down - make a connection between the pup and the claw by heating the solder that's now on the claw and ge...

you can certainly ground the claw by soldering the black wire to it. this was done on vintage jaguars. however, you probably won't be able to do it with a low wattage iron. you have to get those claws pretty hot for the solder to flow. as for the cloth wire, assuming it's the good kind without the ...

Soldering - grounding Jag pick ups

So the microphonic feedback I've been getting from my Jaguar has been getting on my nerves. I've done some searching and read that in order to cancel out the feedback you'd have to pot the pick-ups with the claws and covers attached (if I recall correctly this is what Curtis Novak advises for his pu...

My Japanese skills aren´t of the highest level, and it´s a bit rushed and botched (Japanese grammar knows some convoluted grammatical constructions that do not translate well) but here´s my take on the text: Fender vintage and rare collection Vol. 1 From now on I´ll come to introduce vintage and...

first, make sure you've done a proper wind for your tuning peg. then, stretch the string really well by pulling it pretty hard. you should feel it slacken up the first couple of times you do this. re-tune it. repeat these steps two more times, then do it to all the other strings, and then repeat th...

Tuner issues

The problem is, the high E string doesn't hold tune when tuning up. It tightens and the pitch goes up, only for it to suddenly slack and lose pitch completely. After a few rounds of tuning and detuning, it snaps at the angle where the string goes down into the tuner peg hole. It has only started doi...

Just got it today! http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/qq287/jdebruin/Foto15.jpg It sounded well on my champ 600 amp 5 watt amp so I'll just have to wait till rehearsal this weekend to really test the pick ups at high volume. It plays super, but I'm not familiar with the replacement bridge. It came w...

you will want to groove the saddles a bit to fit the radius better. I´m thinking about putting the original bridge back on and attempt to set it up according to what I´ve read here I guess. Would an AVRI trem unit improve the bridge situation since the string spacing at the tail piece actually li...

Thanks for the replies, hopefully I get to have a go on it this week, see how it works out. Apparently the stock bridge has been replaced by a TOM (it´s definately not a CP), do these even fit the jag radius very well?

When I went to order my Mustang at the local guitar shop they actually tried to talk me out of it for a second. When calling to inform about when it would be arriving they asked 'What guitar did you say this was about?' 'Mustang.' '(very deep sigh) Mustang..'

Very glad I went through with it though.

MIJ jag pickups --- Bought it!

Hi, At the moment I´m seriously considering buying a RI 2005 MIJ jaguar. But before trying it and for justification, I´d like to hear your opinions concerning the Japanese pick ups. I already own a 65 RI mustang, so how would the pick ups compare? I've heard both being likened to strat pickups (mi...

Re: Korean Rics-alikes?

A guitar store near me has one every now and then, so they are finding their way into the Netherlands. They look pretty good in real life, though I haven´t played one yet. Plus I imagine you´d get super scene points for the brand name.

Will do, I have a long history in ruining screwdrivers and drills because of mismatches and my zeal when it comes to getting something stuck. Pictures and results tomorrow.

Lower the tube bit on the trem down. the lower down the more tension to pull the strings back to pitch. I reckon you do this via the holes on top next to the hole for the whammy bar itself? What tool do you stick in these holes to lower lipstick tube? Sorry for asking, thanks for the help so far! Y...

mustang trem

Hi all, I´m new to the board, although I´ve been reading for some time now. I´d like to ask a question, and please pardon me if it´s dumb or obvious. I´ve recently switched from a .9 strings to .11´s on my 65 RI mustang and got it set up at the local guitar store. The guitar used to keep in tu...
