I, for one, love to see old Fenders gutted and improved. Fuck the whole offsetguitars mentality. Good on you for getting it. Thank you. On another note: I'm now waiting for the reranch IBM to come in. I'll get it in a few days. Right now I'm diving into the templates of the body, neck, and pick gua...

It wouldn't be worth it for me to do this and not make a template: http://imgur.com/PmiLfl.jpg http://imgur.com/AsnwUl.jpg http://imgur.com/j7KFXl.jpg http://imgur.com/ADEKxl.jpg It's not perfect (the route holes are damn near though), but I guarantee it's more accurate than the warmoth version. The...

I know I'm going to catch hell for this, but here it goes anyway: I stripped (mechanically, with sandpaper and a scraper) the finish. I was able to retain about 80% of the fullerplast/factory sanding sealer, making my job easier. I knocked the grain down with 100, then 150, and finally 220 grit sand...

Yes. If you don't like it,...

Swinger restoration:
A continuation from this thread I have a Fender Swinger that looks like crap. It sounds like crap, and looks like crap. It's crap. There's a gallery of the guitar pre-restoration here. The goal of the restoration is to re-do the paint, put a new pick guard on it (keeping the old one safe), replace ...

Just curious, how do you use paper to cut out an accurate template with no physical guide? All templates are just a flat piece of plywood, right? Print out .PDF of tracing, tape, jig/bandsaw. The issue is just getting an accurate tracing and not taking into account the thickness of the pencil/pen. ...

Cool guitar. If you do take it apart to refinish it I would love to get a tracing of the body so I could make one. :D Hasn't anyone figured out how to make a .PDF of guitar tracings yet? jeesh. Okay, I'd love to get a pdf or whatever format is easiest for you. I would be happy to pay you for your t...

Is that the original finish? If so leave it alone. I don't know if it's the original finish. Look at this pic: http://i.imgur.com/aMqfzl.jpg That's how it came to me. Blue under red. I know that maybe the guitar was resprayed red at the factory because they screwed the blue up, buy why wouldn't the...

What does Novak charge for a restoration?
I've got this guy: http://i.imgur.com/DDYXml.jpg It's not as good as it can be. I don't use it because it's not as good as it can be. It's become an object, not a tool. I'm thinking that instead of selling/trading it, I could restore it. Get rid of that DiMarzio, fix the paint that has been destroye...

I was first introduced to the swinger when I saw a picture of it in a group shot of fender guitars circa '69 in a fender calender around 2000. I immediately fell in love with the body shape. Awesome. It really is 'whatever floats your boat' sorta thing. After years of searching, I finally put up a '...

So I was trolling ebay -> vintage guitars (pre-1980).
And I got meself a lappy. with matching amp.

Thing is, the amp is probably from the 40s, and doesn't work. Great. My friend's dad is huge into old radios and stuff and I'm going to bring it up on his variac.
Hopefully, I can get it working.
