Holy crap, that thing looks awesome - thanks Hotrod and Stewart. For some reason, I always keep coming back to natural wood guitars (or close to it) or severely worn sunbursts. Thanks for giving me ideas. And GAS. Last time I went to this forum I ordered myself a vinyl racing stripe and black pickgu...

Ooh, that makes sense. I was already browsing warmoth for all kinds of exotic brown-ish types of wood. Never thought about stained ash.

Thanks, Stewart.

Really? Ash? What made it so brown? I thought ash was typically much lighter.

The poostang - what kind of wood is that? It looks gorgeous. Thinking of putting a new Warmoth body on my current '69 RI mustang.

Isn't it extremely hard to do barre chords on fat strings like that, especially considering the short scale neck is thin and you have less grip?

Thanks everybody! Went for 10s in the end. Store guy promised me that would suffice with his setup. Good to see that .09s are generally a no-no.

Which string gauge on a Mustang?

Saw this question on the Fender site. Since I'll be getting my Mustang set up and restrung tomorrow and I feel you guys are most knowledgable when it comes to shortscales, I'd like to ask my question here. I'm not a regular poster (although my Mustang thanks its current looks thanks to a picturepost...

I'm not much of a big pedal user, all I have is an unmodded DS-1.

However, I only have single coil guitars - but I'd like to play some moderately hard rock (Foo Fighters). It doesn't have to excel, but it has to be okay. Can anyone recommend me a pedal? I use a Fender Super Champ XD.

Not lame. While I personally think relic'ing should come natural, I also realise that, with normal wear, it'll take decades to get the same wear and tear as, say, Frusciante's guitar. Don't listen to guitar snobs and do what you like best. The only thing that'd be pretty lame is paying for a relic'i...

I paid about 550+120 usd shipping+80 unexpected European Import tax+120usd unexpected fret dressing for my crappy, beaten-up, warped-neck O-signature reissue custard Mustang.

Needless to say, don't make that mistake. Still, now I do love it.

Fran, It looks incredibly awesome. I was thinking of refinishing my extremely yellow (more yellow than yours, it appears) custard Stang, but this made me change my mind and apply one of my own. Would you mind if I made it burgandy, too? It'd make your guitar less unique. I might also opt for black, ...

that's really nice fran. it already looked pretty shit hot when i saw it at yours. what pickups you rocking? Hot Rails. The stock ones were too noisy and thin sounding. I really like it. It makes even Custard Mustang look awesome. The hotrails - how do they sound clean? Are they as versatile as I t...

Stewart,

That's pretty much the sexiest mustang I have ever seen. I had to choose between jaguar and mustang originaly, visited this board to make my choice months ago, saw your avatar and I was sold.

Most of the basswood I've seen used on mass produced guitars tend to be of the almost grainless variety. Stripping a body is easy, though. So I don't think you should bother going the Warmoth route. At worst, if you really want grain, you could always put a veneer on top of the body. Thanks. Though...

Thanks guys, also for the warm welcome. I guess there's nothing wrong with freakishly custard yellow... but I don't know - I always want to have the feeling that I'm holding an actual piece of wood, so I always prefer sunburst or transparent or natural finishes. Perhaps I'd be better off getting a b...

Ello guys! Question about removing Mustang finish.

'ello! Please allow me to introduce myself - contrary to popular belief, I am not a man of wealth and taste - which is the exact reason I own a gorgeous, cheap, second hand Fender Mustang '69 reissue from '95. Part of the reason I bought it was due to this very board. Whilst lurking I saw so many pe...
