I have a 330 6 string and I love it. It is a bit of strange thing the first time you play one, you need to spend a bit of time to get to know it. But it's worth the effort, its an instrument that rewards patience and will hold its value better than most. Changing the strings isn't a big deal, I hav...

I picked up a Blackstar ID core Beam. Fantastic little practice amp. Sounds great, can plug bass, electric and acoustic guitar into it and stream music to it via blue tooth or use the dedicated line in. Decent sounding FX on it as well. It's just a good fun bit of kit.

I had a Vantage bass for a couple of years. I picked up a 1996 Rickenbacker 4003 for stupidly low price about 14 years ago and just haven't wanted anything else since. I guess I just found my instrument. Wish the same thing would have happened with guitars.....would have saved me a fortune over the ...

Yeah, no 2015 Leftie Gibsons........at all! None, zip, squat, zero, in any of the ranges......with the exception of custom shop. Give them a blank cheque and they will make you one. They did it to us lefties in 2014. They announced that all models and colours would be available in left handed and th...

New Guitar Day

Bought a 2013 Les Paul Studio Gold series, kind of because I have always fancied a Les Paul and Gibson didn't make any lefties in 2014 and aren't going to make any 2015 models. So i kind of panic shopped! Also Gibson have gone mental with their current range so thought I would buy a 'proper' one whi...

Not a Strat I'm after. Thinking of something along the lines of a Shecter classic range, or a Gretsch Electromatic. Just fancy trying something a bit different. And there in lies my problem!

Buying Off the Internet

Ok, here's the deal, how does everyone feel about buying guitars without playing them? I am a Leftie, and kind of toying with the idea of getting something new. I went to the local PMT last Saturday as it holds the largest stock in Bristol just to see what's about at the moment. Out of 600 - 700 ele...

Vesta Fire DST distortion. Not a bad pedal, I've still got it but it's a bit beat up now.

Very nice. Big fan of Epi SGs. Picked up my G400 second hand for no money at all. I swapped the pots for CTS, put in decent wire, Switchcraft jack and switch, set of Tonerider Rebel P90 pickups and added a Bigsby using the Vibromate system. Spent more on the upgrades than the initial price of the gu...

Ok, fused changed, power valves taken out. We have life! I have put the stock 6l6's back in for now and everything seems hunky dory! The JJs look fine, and I have read a few postings the the V55 can blow a fuse for no real reason, but I will order some new valves just to be on the safe side. Thanks ...

Ok, had 10 minutes to kill befor the pub, took the chassis out, only obviousness fues is located on the back next to the power socket. Guess this is the first thing to replace. Valves themselves look ok.

Just had a quick look at the valves, they look ok on quick inspection, but it's beer o'clock so will take em out tomorrow when I have picked up a new fuse. Think it's a TA1H 250V looking at the back of the amp. Cheers for the info, will post findings tomorrow.

Bugera V55HD just went Pop!

My V55HD no longer seems to function. Turned it on, in standby, it went pop. The power light went out and now the amp has no life at all. Any ideas what the most likely thing to have gone wrong before I lug it down to an amp tech?

Fan of braided metal insulated wire in Gibson-style cavities, real fast/easy work with the right clippers. Cloth wire tends to piss me off too. Agreed, metal braided insulated wire is great stuff. Very easy to deal with, but the cloth stuff is crap. iCEByTes - Yeah, I had come across those videos, ...

Ok, swapping out the caps and pots for better quality ones is worth doing. More tonal range from the pickups and everything just sounds sweeter. One thing I will not use again is waxed cloth wire. I found it a complete pain to strip, it just kept fraying at the ends! There is a reason cable is wrapp...

Lowrez - Jim Johnston, yeah Bristol based. He is an amazing player and a great teacher. Lessons are just fun, which is what they should be. My Fingure picking has gone from a shambles to not so bad in a couple of months. Just look forward to what he is going to challenge me with next!
