Thanks guys, I think I'll give it a go. Need to have a think about my procurement plan and have a quick look at what's on the classifieds. It'd be cool to source as many as I can through shortscale.

The amp is a Marshall JVM combo.

2017 Pedal Board Project

I've not bought any new gear in an absolute age. I was sat thinking at work earlier it might be a cool little project to buy one pedal a month in 2017 with the aim of having a well stocked pedalboard by the end of the year. If I set myself the boundaries of spending between £50 and £100 pounds a m...

Quick CIJ Jag Question...

There's a local gumtree ad for a '94 CIJ Sunburst Jag. It's up for £300, which feels like a good price if it's in decent nick. Am I right? Tempted to give it a whirl on the basis I could sell it on if we don't bond...

My recommendation would always be for a Marshall JVM series combo. Seriously all the amp you'd ever need, lovely cleans through to pretty great Marshall overdrive. You might just get a 50watt combo for £400 on gumtree or the like.

Are you US based?

I just unexpectedly ended up with some pennies and I'm tempted by a Supermoon but no idea what import charges etc might run to.

I had one, pretty much as described. There's a whole load of mods (simple ones) that make it sound much better. If you google it they're all listed on a forum someplace.

I played the bigsby cabronita the other weekend ( in GAK, as it happens). Pleasantly surprised by how good it was, neck felt pretty good, body was a little on the light side for me. The bridge pickup does sound pretty weak next to the neck humbucker, but on a £260 guitar it's a relatively quick fix...

The Fret Music shop isn't actually that far from my house, and I'm almost certain I've seen that Tokai in person. I could probably go check it out if you like? In other news, and not sure if it fits in this thread, I'm sort of interested in this - Link It seems a decent price considering what they g...

Anyone have any experience of the Marshall Vintage Modern amps? There's one up on Guntree locally for £400 Ono which I'm thinking of having a look at. I've got a JVM which I love but fancied one of these when they originally came out. It might just be a try out and then flip later at cost jobbie.

Yes. Love cabronitas. Black with white scratch plate and maple neck is sexy as hell. I've a feeling (based on zero google searching) that the MIM version doesn't use filtertrons, they're something else with a similar name...

I'd always recommend 88 keys, and a weighted / semi weighted keyboard if you can afford it. Otherwise the feel is completely different and it's actually quite difficult to adapt after playing a real piano. Not sure if they still do it but there was an M Audio Pro Keys 88 keyboard which was pretty de...

I owned Dave's old MM bass amp, which as great as it is, is perhaps not great for the small shows/ musical environment. About 6 months ago I was involved in a production of We Will Rock You and I used the MM for a little while, but it struggled to keep up in the band environment, particularly with v...

I owned a Keeley 2 knob compressor for a while. I bought it dirt cheap with then intention of selling it on, kinda fell in love with it and then got skint and let it go. But still, I'd thoroughly recommend it, although they are mega spendy.

Ah useful, ta.

When I bought my Marshall I unknowingly used it with mismatched impedance (8 ohm output into a 16 ohm speaker) for a couple of weeks until I took the back off and realised. Apparety a whole load of the JVMs came from the factory plugged in wrong.
