Boiling strings because they are dirty is one thing, but if they are worn you'll just be wasting your time. Intonation depends on wear, and if they are worn, your intonation will suffer and be inaccurate in the worn places. I don't bother boiling strings cuz I can buy a new set of bass strings for $...

Good point. Reece both bottles are red, make sure you are buying the BLUE version. Plumber's tape should not be used. You know why? Because it peels off and then does not work and it leaves the shredded stuff down in there and you'll eventually have to tear it apart to clean it. USE a drop of blue l...

Reece, it sounds to me like you need to put your attitude away. I am a certified luthier and I've been one for over 28 years. I make a living at it. You, on the other hand are a wanna be. Most intelligent people seek the opinion of a qualified person to help them with their guitar issues. I get paid...

Spray can or sometimes a can like 3-in-1 oil, depends on store. If you use a soldering iron, clean the tip beforehand, and make sure there is NO lighter fluid or oil on the part or near the area or you'll be on fire! Usually the liquid wrench will take care of it though. Be patient.

Buy some Liquid Wrench and keep saturating it with it or soak it in it for a few days. That totally eats the rust loose. Usually works on the stubborn stuff. Feel free to then resoak in the other solution too. You are welcome!

NevrDull can be found at automotive stores. It comes in a tin can and has cotton batting in it that's loaded with metal cleaning chemicals. Usually any chrome cleaner will work fine too to just buff them up a bit once the lighter fluid/3-in-1 oil mixture does it's magic.

Okay, please try this cuz I am a guitar tech and I do know what works best here. Mix a solution of half lighter fluid and half 3-in-1 oil. Soak the parts overnite. The rust will be gone. If you wish to polish the parts, use Nevr-Dull.

I won't be building pedals or circuit boards.
Something cheap would do you okay, even a cheap radio Shack one. Get a 30-40 watter.

I'm a dual pro, and I use Weller. The stations have a thermostat control and different size tips you can use. The tip for guitar work is too large for intracate and delicate circuit board soldering. You also have to be able to vary your tip temperature. Figure out what you plan to do with the solder...

In my guitar shop, and hand-made custom guitar effects shop we use Wellers' only. They are very reliable and have a better choice of tips easily available for me.

yeah do that ^ or put some standard automotive grease on it. please don't put locktite on it. what is with this trend of people telling you to glue shit in place on your guitar. I would hate to buy a guitar from any of you people. Blue locktite is NOT glue. It just makes the threads a little sticki...

He is complaining of the SCREW loosening. To fix this: Buy some blue locktite and put a small dap on the threads and run it back in, it'll keep the screw from loosening.

If you want to get rid of this kind of annoying telecaster issue, buy and install an electrosocket from www.stewmac.com. The stock crap gets thrown out, including the internal flat piece of steel that the jack goes through. You need to buy a switchcraft jack too. Then once you have the stock crap ou...
