A: If any fretted octave is adjusted correctly, the open to fretted 12th fret will be approximately 7-cents sharp.
B: Correct. I mean fret.
C: Original nut.

Mustang Intonation Problem

66 mustang.
When I test the G string open, then at the 12th fret, I get that it's sharp.
When I test any other octave, such as 5th and 17th, it's reading flat.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Whammy creep

I notice on both my Mustangs (US 66 and Japanese) that after I play a few minutes they go slightly out of tune, then if I pop the whammy they go back in tune, almost like a reset. These are strings that already stretched the heck out of too.

Anyone else experience this, or have a fix?

Thread lock and plumbers tape. I might try one or both of these. So besides the little leg screws you're doing the bridge screws? Thanks for this good info.

Haven't tried that but at this pint the buzz from the bridge is mostly gone. I just wondered if there was a better rout than the tape for silencing those screws.

Bridge screw buzz

I killed the major source of buzzing in my RI. It was the tiny black screws on the bridge legs. I wrapped them tight with a couple wounds of electrical tape but left the tips sticking out a bit. Also put a couple wounds around the legs as they sometimes contact the sides. %75 buzz free. Anyone know ...

Here's the Whammy Set Up I was looking for.

I'm looking for an article I found a couple weeks ago but lost.

It's this guy setting up his mustang trem in detail. At one point he puts a piece of rubber tubing on his whammy bar...

Anyone know where this is?

Here's a new one. It's not a buzz, but a squeak. Push the whammy down and it's like rolling over on a spring bed. That can only be: 1) the springs (which I've coated with Vaseline) 2) the new strings 3) the strings going over the saddles or nut (covered with graphite) 4) the contact point with the m...

Even with the Japanese reissues? That's cool! When I did a side-by-side of the 64 and the 2002 JP RI I was surprised that they sounded very close. The more I play the RI I hear a bit of roughness around the high-end. Maybe it's those mini pots I need to replace 1st.

Mustang Pickups originally Alnico or Ceramic?

I've been searching for this answer far and wide with no luck.
Were vintage Mustang pickups originally alnico or ceramic? How about US and Japanese reissues?

Thanks for the replies. I use fairly heavy flat-wounds (11-50). The absolute worst buzz seems to originating from the bridge. Does anyone else reverse this bridge?

Mustang buzz control

Hello. I have a 64 Dakota Red and have just purchased a CIJ 2002 RI Competition. The RI sounds good and has not seen much use. However, there are lots of non-string buzzing going on. There are high and low pitch buzzes that make my tuner jump. Does anyone know the places to check that are typically ...
