OK it's been done for a while but I have finally got around to Taking pics.. I outsourced the wiring ( 250 K CTS pots and a Angela’s .047 Paper in oil capacitor if you care ) to a great local tech. I wanted him to backstop me on the set up as well. He adjusted the placement of my shim and made the...

Getting the pickup set right was more involved than I expected. I made a little spacer from scrap and will use a small layer of open cell foam for height adjustment. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/Rotor_/Band/Tele%20bass/DSCF4275.jpg . http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/Rotor_/Band/Tele%20ba...

The Bakelite pickguard is getting lacquer and needs to be sanded first to give the edges a little “melt. I’m not sure if I will wet sand it after lacquering or not. New http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/Rotor_/Band/Tele%20bass/DSCF4215.jpg Sanded http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/Rotor_...

As mentioned above, even though this is alder it this is going to have an oil finish. It has been recommended to me, that to dye Alder, a conditioning coat should be used to better to control the speed and depth of color absorption. The reason is because using dye on woods like alder and birch can c...

So I got this imported “ Alder body from Rondo for $40.00 because it had not been drilled for guitar bridge holes. I thought it was a bargain but I am reminded that you always pay in the end. There was a most tenacious sealer in this wood. ( disclaimer; If I had been painting this, I would have...

@ thom; I mocked it up with some foam but it was so tall that the stability was bad and the screws were only barely penetrating the wood. I think will put a ½ inch puddle of epoxy in the bottom and build foam up from there. @honeyiscool; It is a humbucker. Fralin split coil 51 A trim plate would be...

They were way off and looked odd not being under the strings. Asthetics mostly also, I bend quite a bit and I want them in the center most spot to cover me.

Because of the shorter scale and slightly more narrow string spacing the 51 P bass pickup will have to be at a greater cant than on a 51 P bass. . http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/Rotor_/Band/Tele%20bass/DSCF4116.jpg . . http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/Rotor_/Band/Tele%20bass/DSCF4115.jpg ....

Woahhh! That's a beaut of a project! Can't believe you made it look so seamless! Good idea with the fishing line, when I did my Bigsby I just eyeballed it. So are you going to modify the upper horn? It might be badass, but probably not necessary especially considering all that could go wrong...

OK, time to get on with pre-assembly. I am using a Bakelite pickguard and will have to lengthen the neck pocket opening to account for the neck being so much further into the body. This one came out OK but it's a little to sloppy so there will be another. (maybe red tortoise shell) . http://i9.photo...

Sorry if I missed it elsewhere, but do you have plans for the Bronco body? Steve. No plans yet but I'm holding onto it waiting for inspiration. _______________________________________________________ Time to re-profile the peghead. . http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/Rotor_/Band/Tele%20bass/DSCF...

hotrodperlmutter It will be a Rat Rod'ish homage to 50's tele's and Precisions with an Oil finish and Bakelite guard. __________________________________ To get the neck to seat deep enough in the body I chiseled through the bottom of the neck pocket in to the space where a tele neck pickup would be....

30" scale Telecaster/ Esquire bass build (pics)

Winter project time is winding down and I have to get moving on this thing. It’s going to be a short scale (30") Telecaster/ Esquire bass. I was inspired by some pics I saw of a bass Rhomco built that was laid out similar to this so I thought I would give it a go. It will use an off the shelf...
