Heavy? Well, it IS a bass guitar. It's not as heavy as the Classic 60's Jazz Bass I used to have. I was gonna say... it's heavier than most guitars, sure... but relative to many basses, it's not bad at all. I think the heaviest i've owned is a 70's MiA Peavey T-40. The heaviest i've played, though,...

It looks like a Ferrington body with an after market Maple neck. The quality is janky, so i cant see what's written on the headstock, but it looks like they just used a more Fendery Kramer bass' neck. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v638/AlexRigg/My%20Kramer%20Collection/IM001292.jpg http://www.kr...

I'm a bassist, but I'm a big fan o the old MiA Peavey T series. Though they are double cutaway... but them maple necks! They're both 23.5" scale: The T-30: http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z256/hwjennings1/peavey/PeaveyT30001.jpg The T-15 (my fave): http://www.premierguitar.com/ext/resources/...

I know I'm super late to the party... but this is awesome. I've been wanting to do a JagStang or Cyclone bass build for a while now, and this is really good inspiration. I sold off all my Fender/Squire short scale basses... but a project bass would be awesome... I think it'd be rad to try to replica...

My band's new(ish) ep! Indie-pop till ya drop!

We all had some spare time over the Christmasty-Holiday break... so we did a quick 1-or-2-take 2 song recording. It's indie-pop/dream-pop kinda stuff, if yr in2 that. Ch-ch-ch-check it out: Ghost Hotel - Night & Day e.p. It was the first time i recorded with my '74 Univox HiFlyer short scale Bass!

I'm in Maryland... congratz on the jacket! I bet it helped combat the bitter-ass cold that's been going on here, too!

I can't tell from the picture if you have 34" scale strings in there, or not... but short scale (30") strings have always fit in the tuning peg holes of the couple musicmaster basses i've owned. I put a Di'Marzio Hot Rails in a '78 Musicmaster, and it was one of the best basses i've ever o...

Awesome! That's a beautiful bass. That's a Phase 2, right? IIRC, Phase 1 and 2 had the P90s and rosewood fingerboards, but Phase 1's had the plastic glued-on logo and they changed to that awesome printed Logo in '71 with the Phase 2. Mine's a Phase 3... i'm a sucker for Maple fingerboards. I just bo...

PM Replied to. and cool, i have a hiflyer bass, too! LOVE my hi-flyer. My goal was to get the original pickups back in working order. A previous owner had some Gretsch Filtertrons installed for a quick solution, because the originals "were broken". While the replacement pickups in-and-of t...

I got to play a 1966 Jaguar the other day!

So, I had been looking for someone to work on my '77 Univox Hi-Flyer bass, to no avail, for a while. A few weeks ago, i saw a listing, on craigslist, for a sweeeet MiJ 60's Mosrite reissue. So, on a whim i emailed the seller to see if he/she knew anyone that worked on this style of guitar/bass. Well...

I've been thinking about jumping the gun on one of those, as well. Your write up has the scales decidedly tipping in the, "dude, just get one" direction.

I can dig a well done silverburst. Way back when, i had this record by an Indonesian garage rock band, and the bassist's P bass had this Silverburst look to it (i'm pretty sure it was just sunburst with a bad camera from the 60's)... but i've always wanted to do a warmoth muted silverburst P. Radnes...

That's disheartening... BUT, good to know, none the less.

I played it with the Gretsch pickups this past Saturday, and it sounded well enough.

But, I'm still going to be trying the original pickups over the next few days. So we'll see how that goes.

That bass is fantabulous! Did these come with the old school p-bass bridge ashtray, or is that an add-on? What kind of pickups would have come stock? And what's the scale length? Very nice score! 1. Ashtray: As far as i know... yes. However, i have seen stock Hi-Flyers with both the '62 P bass asht...
