I took classical lessons in the late sixties and a music store in Midland had just started selling Yamaha stuff. My parents bought a Yamaha classical guitar for me. Yamaha had a speaker set up in the store, which was hooked to an off brand amp. The speaker was about three feet wide and five feet hig...

Very possibly true. The hole is positioned at the center of balance of the instrument, so it hangs neither neck nor body heavy. On my own '56 Combo 400 (according to the serial number, it is the 88th solid body Rickenbacker ever made!), the back of the guitar's body was clad with friction material....

Yeah, next you're gonna tell me that he doesn't actually play using strings that are made from melted down cadillac fenders.
He can if he wants.

I went to see them in Dallas last year with Tom Petty and he told the story of the hat. It was handmade for him by a fan in Africa- must have been a special fan, he wears it a lot.

gaybear wrote:my peavey fretboard was well worn for sure. that's one of the things i liked about it, because it was kind of a record of my own playing.
My Rickenbacker sure wore in the high frets. It is Rose wood, I think. I think they use maple now and it is stained much darker.

Its for a saxophone strap
I wonder who thought of that, I bet Rick is the only company that had a saxophone strap hole.

Hey Nyck, I never saw a fretless guitar, except for a cello if you hold it wrong. I wonder if your fretless wonder would have sounded like an electric Cello, Ha. The things we did. I had to paint my Rickenbacker gold pick guard black. I am sure glad I didn't do the truss rod cover too.

The Headboys are pretty good, I don't really hear anything distinctive from the SG. It may be the effects. It looks good and the specs make for a well playing guitar. Gibson produces quality and always has. West Texas Red, have you played the SG or the new Les Paul? Has anyone in here? I was just wo...

Hi , I belong to the corporate Rickenbacker forum and did have the same pictures up there last year. I can't remember what the hole is on the back of the 850. If you look at all the 850's they have differences. My guitar is a single pickup, toaster type. It is authentic, because it copies nothing. I...

I wish they had made a video of their production back in the late fifties. I have a guitar made during that time and it is so well made. I think the new ones are probably more precise guitar to guitar than back then. The brown strip through the middle of the neck on my guitar looks like it is walnut...

New man here

Hello, I am new here and love the site. I got here through Googling Rickenbacker 850. West Texas Red I have never seen these pictures. The only 850 I have seen belonged to Tony Blair. I hail from West Texas, Midland to be exact. I am now in the center of the state. Where did you find those pictures ...
