The area does have a slight taper to it.

It's the one that's in the neck. It looks like a hole was drilled and the tuning peg was shoved in.

Repair Help

A friend of mine has a banjo and the tuning peg that is set in the neck is loose. The poor thing can even be tuned. How is something like this best handled?

Does anyone have experience with something like this?
