oops sorry, I was (potentially) talking out my arse. I've never even tried to open a kluson - I was thinking F tuners.

You can pop the tuning peg and gear out of the casing pretty easily - then you could swap the covers, unless I'm missing some other difference?

Sorry to be thick, but what kind of cool stuff could you use one of these for? cos I'm well up for trying some crazy envelope pushing wiring in my blue stang...

Thanks for all your replies :)

If I don't make a complete dogs dinner of it and aren't too embarrassed, I'll post some pictures up!

Or maybe you'll just see a guitar on eBay with 'refinish done by a previous owner' - always makes me smile to see those kind of listings...

Thanks everyone. I dulled the finish with something between 200 and 400, can't remember exactly. I then wiped Nitromors in with some steel wool, put the body outside in an old wooden drawer with a refuse sack pinned over the top. An hour later, literally nothing had happened to the finish! the black...

So the replacement on the Mustang could be an older tuner than the rest? In which case your not finding out when the repair was made. Pisser.

I've got a 61 duo sonic neck that has single row tuners - the say 'deluxe' down the middle, like your replacement one. I assumed these had never left the neck. Does that mean that mine are all replacements?

Ha actually the picture is pretty useless so ignore that!

but the mustang doesn't seem to be bigger than the strat by more than half an inch at any point round the body

Hello mate, I'm definitely not a case expert, but the shape of the case in your eBay link reminded me of one of my cases, so I took a picture with both Strat and Mustang inside. I also lay the Mustang on top of the Strat... the Mustang headstock is about 1 inch taller... the bodies are quite similar...

cordless drill/screwdriver could free that lefty neck in less than 20 seconds! Is the Jag-Stang neck profile unique to that instrument? Or is it the same as the older Japanese 69 Mustang reissues?

i don't think shimming changes tone noticeably at all I guess cos they're normally a thin sliver, and only under one end of the contacting surfaces. But you know sometimes if when playing your headstock contacts a hollow wall, and you hear it... surely a piece of thick notebook cardboard would less...

I saw one of these on my way into that shop - I didn't realise it was meant to be a door handle. Seems a massive facking waste to me! In their defense, they are one of the few shops on that street that isn't staffed by total dicks. The place that used to be next door but moved to above Andy's being ...

I have a 70s Mustang that is an amazing player, plenty of people here have played it and would agree, but the bottom side of the neck pocket is not tight at all - it doesn't stop it being the best Mustang I've played. IMO the consistency isn't there in the CBS guitars, but there are some great guit...

Yeah, no doubt... Actually I was told by a guy in a vintage guitar shop that from a collectors point of view, good clean 70s telecasters were a good investment. He did happen to have a 70s tele in his shop window though! I'd love to know roughly how many strats/teles/mustangs etc Fender have manufac...

A question of CBS era short scale quality...

I've read conflicting opinions of the quality decline of non Strat / Tele guitars during the CBS era, with some claiming the Mustang family etc suffering even worse during this period, and others claiming that as most of the cost cutting methods were aimed at the best selling instruments, our belove...

Original dakota red too. I'm very surprised it hasn't been snatched up yet. Damn it! Dunno if they too also have th...
