What seems to have been overlooked is that these pickups aren't really 'goldfoils' at all, just mini humbuckers with gold mesh covers. That's why they sound like mini humbuckers in the demos.

I just bought this for £200, which I think is a pretty good price given how much Talmans (Talmen?) are going for these days. It was the cheapest model from a few years ago, but comes with locking tuners and contour heel, neither of which the J-Line made-in-Japan models have. Picking it up on Sunday....

It's a refin. The paint on lots of the Lead series went really bad (milky, flaking) due to the CBS execs furiously jizzing in the paintpots to make the stuff go further and save a few cents.
