You are quite right!

Not only could one convert a bullet strat into a VOX SPITFIRE look-alike, it would be easy to transform a mini-strat into a short-scale Spitfire! I thank you for your comment-- you've given me my next projects! I need to start combing the pawnshops again...

Duo Sonic

I really wanted to make it look more like a duo-sonic but I couldn't quite figure out how to cut the body. I need to get another one of these and give it a try-- a duo-sonic look would be ideal!

Guitar Overhaul/mods/shortscale

The idea here was to take a mini-strat and make it look like something else-- NOT a mini-strat. I liked the 22.7 inch scale but I did not like the body shape of the mini-strat. Process detailed in this blog post: http://lubbockunplugged.blogspot.com/2018/04/guitar-overhaul.html I'm satisfied with th...

Squier Mini 22.5 inch scale

Well, while browsing in my favorite local pawn shop, a place where I've found several of my guitars, I noticed a Fiesta Red Squier Mini Strat. It lacked a string and the plastic on the pickguard had not been removed. It was peeling and looked bad. So I made an offer and got the guitar for $40 US. I ...

A bit late, but...

It is easy to block the trem on a jagmaster. I would locate a pawnshop or ebay jagmaster and take it apart completely. Refinish the body and even paint the headstock to match. Substitute your pickups when you reassemble, maybe get a new pickguard custom made or make one yourself if you don't like to...

The Squire VM Mustang arrived...

... and it is quite nice. Good finish, good workmanship. I like the sound of it. Very versatile. I had to correct three problems, however: the high E string was put on sloppily, and part of it was actually caught under a tailpiece post! I had to slacken all of the strings and then use a large flathe...

STILL no Squire Mustang!

I think it was about a month ago that I decided to patronize a local music store. They did not have what I wanted in stock (a Squire VM sonic blue mustang) but ordered one for me. I've been waiting and waiting. It seems, at least according to the people who manage this store, that there is such dema...

Intonating Les Paul Jr.

Recently I mentioned finding an EPIPHONE Les Paul jr. in a local pawnshop for $75 US. But I see no reason why the intonation tips I will provide would not apply to a Gibson Les Paul jr, or an SG jr for that matter, from either source. I found it necessary to use the hex adjustment screws on the soli...

That Muff!

I rather like that muff. Muffs in general are not such bad things, as any muff diver could tell you, and apart from such considerations you must recall that vintage Jags came equipped with a muff on the other side of the bridge, so that the strings could be dampened completely. What purpose that ser...

The Cordoba Cadette

http://lubbockunplugged.blogspot.com/2015/06/so-guitars.html The Cordoba acoustic is the last guitar pictured, and the list is already out of date. I have a Sonic Blue Squire VM mustang on order, should arrive next month, and today I purchased an Epiphone Les Paul Jr. from my favorite pawn shop. The...

binding and block?

Well, no. It is a classical guitar, afterall. But now that you mention it, some position markers on the fretboard would be useful. I'm just going to do that with PAINT!

Mustang Bridge On Squire VM Jaguar

http://lubbockunplugged.blogspot.com/2015/10/mustang-bridge-on-squire-vm-jaguar.html I'm not sure whether or not the addy pasted above will appear as an active link. If not, copy and paste into your browser. The pics there will detail the installation of a mustang bridge on a VM Jaguar, with neck/br...

Mods?

Extra heavy black nylon classical strings, lowered action, and a contact type pickup might make this guitar a lot more interesting and I contemplate doing these things in the near future.

Military Spec

I think that means the solder and wiring and pots and other components are extra heavy duty. Maybe they are also radiation resistant! It's nice to think that my guitar would survive a nuclear blast with only minor damage...

The Short Scale Acoustic...

... is a horse of another color. I found a Cordoba Cadette in a pawnshop for $90 bucks and bought it. It is a nylon string Spanish guitar and has a 24" scale. I thought it might be fun for Laura Weber/Joan Baez folky stuff. Unfortunately it's kind of dull sounding. I can't find strings that wor...

"Other" short scale guitars...

Several years ago I found a couple of Peavey Patriot guitars in local pawnshops. They were inexpensive despite being USA made, and they had 24" scales. Very nice guitars. Peavey's hardware is up to military spec, or so I've read elsewhere, and the pickup/tone circuitry is innovative. I regret s...

Jay Turser Mustang Copies

I bought one of the Jay Turser Mustang copies recently and ended up returning it. The guitar looked fine but could not be set up. It had hopeless tuning/intonation issues. I determined that the bridge would need to be relocated. So I actually removed the bridge and found a way to change its position...
