What effect is josh using at the begining guitar part for the song before the vocals kick in? He doesn't use the same ffect on the album but pretty much all live versions, where it sounds echo-ey and metallic,
or is that just how his rig sounds?

I've always hated the rat(2?). My friend had one in highschool and I just didn't take a liking to it. After having my 5150 I much prefer tubeamp distortion but if i were going to get a pedal i liked Boss DS1s or Boss superdistortionfeedbackers(yes its a real pedal).

The binding/trim makes it look junky. It's like ,hey no one will realize the rest of this guitar looks so junky if we throw some white/pearloid trim on it

Big Muff is good for fuzz but it doesn't do very good for "crisp" sounding palm muting. It sounds muffled and jumbled up. I don't know how to better explain that. otherwise it's a great pedal. I am referring to the American model as I have never played the Russian one.
