Re: Baldwin/Burns Double Six

I'm pretty sure it's corrosion of zinc passivation on the pot cases. I think I need to brush it off with a toothbrush while vacuuming it up.

Baldwin/Burns Double Six

I took my Baldwin/Burns Double Six along to practice last night. The other guitarist used it for "Take It Easy" and liked it so much he used it for "Mind Eraser" and "Wherever You Will Go". He didn't play guitar at all on "Basket Case". There was a bit of scra...

Re: Black Japanese resurrection

Nice! By the way one of the images looks like the zero fret may have slots in it for the strings; it shouldn't, that's not how they work. You may fix the pinging problem by smoothing the fret or filling the slots with e.g. solder. It hasn't got slots, but time, pressure and a soft fret alloy, I gue...

No Uke Day

 Monopoli ukulele festival finished Sunday. Some interesting designs, but I did not buy one. 20240602_134809.jpg 20240602_134821.jpg 20240602_135331.jpg I like the Flight electrics but they're not cheap. I like the fact they do proper 4-string pickups instead of using a 6-string pickup with two...

Had to upgrade my power supply so I can power the mini vent as it’s 12v and I only had a 9v supply. Hoping to find some dirt pedals that run on 18v to play with that.
I have more 12V supplies than I know what to do with.

Re: Line 6 Variax external power

On load, my current USB power packs (2 x 5V 2.1A) shut down - probably inrush current or something. I'm not sure whether to try a more modern (5V 4.5A) PD-style power pack or try a different DC-DC converter. Or try some kind of current limiting. Oscilloscope out...

Line 6 Variax external power

So here's what I've put together. Much of this you will already have seen in my guitar thread. The Variaxes can be fed external power through a TRS cable or the RJ45 VDI connector. I'm using TRS here as an alternative to the internal 6 x 1.5V battery pack. Current drawn by the Variax seems to be abo...

Re: HELP COMPUTER: modding a Boss pedal

Looking at the circuit diagrams for the SD-2 and HM-2, the HM-2 has a similar input stage to the Big Muff Pi. You might try increasing the value of C10, currently 100 pF, if the other aspects suit. Ooh that's very interesting, thanks Nick! Based on the circuit, would you foresee any problems with m...

Re: HELP COMPUTER: modding a Boss pedal

Feels like it would be easier to stick another circuit and/or foot switch into a muff enclosure than trying to mod a completely different circuit into something it isn't? Plenty of space. But my point is I want the Boss enclosure because of the form factor and those 2 Boss pedals I mentioned CAN ge...

Plan coming together... bought 5 of these as I can see other possibilities with these cheap power converters and it brings the unit cost down.

Re: HELP COMPUTER: modding a Boss pedal

Sounds like you want a single transistor input stage with that negative feedback cap that simulates the Miller effect you get with valves and germanium transistors.

That's using a 12v centre +ve supply, but I'm thinking of putting in a rectifier bridge so it could be powered by a standard (Boss-style) 9v centre -ve PSU. I might also look for a USB connector so it can be run off a USB charger
