Alright guys, sorry for the newb question but I am about to buy a neck for my Jazzmaster project.... just a cheap strat neck, but does it matter whether its 21 or 22frets in a practical sense ... intonation etc. I know a Jazzmaster has 21 but this project is operation cheap as chips...
cheers

I prefer 22 fret necks since I do use that last fret, but the big difference for me is that with 22 frets, you have to detach the neck to swap a pickguard, and with 21 frets, you don't. Not a problem. Slacken strings, put a capo on the neck, unbolt.
They intonate identically. I had a 22 fret neck on my 25.5" scale Jagmaster.

Fret spacing is identical as long as the scale length is the same. The reason for the overhang on a 22 fret neck is to fit on the extra fret, without affecting scale length or intonation.JohnnyTheBoy wrote:Im in this dilemma to!..but im gonna go with 21 i think!...i dont like the 22 fret overhang...
But im worried that the 21 fret spacing will be larger than on the 22???
