Boss ST2 Power Stack ...

Post by johnnyseven »

... is shit, don't buy one. The BC2 Combo Drive, on the other hand, is awesome.

Thanks! I was just looking for demos thinking it might be quite good. Saves me the bother.

It may sound good on other people's guitars but with mine I couldn't get a sound I liked out of it. Plus on higher gain settings it feedback like a bastard. However I spent a couple of hours playing with the Combo Drive and found loads of sounds I liked, it's super versatile. A guy in Rose Morris told me it's the best OD Boss have ever made, he could have been saying that just to get me to buy it though - it didn't work.

He's clearly never played an OD-2r then!

The BC-2 seems cool though, like a cheaper alternative to a Catalinbread CB-30.

I thought the OD-2r weren't supposed to be very good?

I didn't know they had a bad rep. I love mine, sounds similar to an SD-1 with the C6 mod on the normal mode, the turbo side cranked reminds me of an HM-2/RAT.

I tend to keep the gain below noon and it nails alot of the Swirlies cleaner sounds. Also not as drastic a mid hump as a tube screamer either, which is a plus IMO.

This. The OD-2R is a definitely one of the best Boss pedals I've tried, and I've tried a few. It's definitely far better than the OD-3.

I really need to try one out. I'm not holding out any hopes for one beating an OD-2 though, 8) not "indie" enough

I picked up an OD-3 and an OD-2R, both second hand, over the past few months and the OD-2R definitely sounded better. I thought the OD-3 was very overrated, too bassy, too compressed, just not pleasing to the ears. The OD-2R is just more natural sounding. It's a shame they've been discontinued.

The OD-2R was amazing, I loved mine. Fuck knows why I sold it.

The OD-3 is also a winner. I'll have to try the Combo Drive.

Pete Thorn makes it sound great - however he is a monster guitar player.

I picked one up on ebay and I like it. Also picked a Power Stack up, but that got re-listed pretty much straight away.

What was your opinion of the power stack, like sound wise? I was gonna get one to use as a light gain stage in front of a clean amp, but hearing your opinion has made me skeptical. :?:

ODB-3 is superior.

Aye. I tried one of those in some wank guitar shop recently. With a Baja Tele.

They all thought I was mad.

I believe he does indeed. Infact, I think he uses two of them.
