poor jag (fake relic content)

Post by mark-s »

Apologies if this belongs to anyone on here, and I certainly don't want to start an argument about relics per se, but I think this is just awful:

ebay

I do like the colour though.

Nice color! For some reason the last few months I've been maybe wanting a Jaguar. I wonder if the naff relic job would put punters off and keep the price reasonable on this.

Are these type of Jags as heavy as alder Jagmasters?

I have a CIJ jag & it's a weighty beast. Not sure if this is one of those as I can't see the printing at the base of the neck.

I actually like this....like Hurb said I've seen way worse. I'd probably want to see it in person because refinished paint jobs can be misleading in photos, and I'd be especially wary because of the relic job.

That's far from a utterly terrible relic job, I'd play it if I was a £400 quid guitar kinda guy.

I agree it's one of the better DIY efforts I've seen, at least he hasn't gone apeshit with a belt sander. It's still miles away from looking natural though.

It'll be interesting to see how much it goes for...

I like it, nice colour, wish whoever did it had been a little easier on the metal parts though/

I think that's what stood out for me, the metal relicing is way OTT.

i don't mind fake relic as said if that puts people off good for the ones that are looking to score one cheap.
i don't respect my guitars much, i've never cleaned them, some are covered in dust underneath the strings, dirty frets, stickers, dings in the butts and cracks (yeah the stang is what i'm talking about) and the fake relic on my jag, it's overdone on the back it looks shit, but don't care much, if i had a vintage guitar i would take better care of it but not keep it pristine either, it's part of being a tool to make music, it will get scarred anyway of you use it and instead of spending a few extra minutes after practice wiping it and make it shine (i've been in bands with musicians who did that ..ugh) i'd rather spend those extra minutes smoking a cig instead of cleaning my guitar. a guitar headstock is a good cig holder. straplocks are to make sure it doesnt't drop while playing and look like an ass, or to keep the neck from diving and breaking, the butt can get dented, it will anyway. it's not fragile like a neck.
only times i bother with that cleaning is if there's blood on the pg and strings or whatever gets spilled on it, it's tempting to keep it on to look cool but dried blood on strings sucks, i like old strings on guitars so they gotta last a bit.

Me too. I like the colour and it doesn't look 'fake'. Certainly no worse than the Kurt Cobain Jaguar or Joe Strummer Tele.

No one has said it's a copy, its a MIJ Fender Jaguar. That the seller themselves has stated is "reliced" to look like a well worn/played guitar.

I think the word 'fake' in the thread title may be the culprit here.

and for the price it isn't bad..

It's up to £380 now.

There's also a CAR CIJ Jag on for about the same, I know which one I'd rather spend 400 quid on.

here's another ebay diy relic:
