strange color on Coronado...

Hi!

Saw this pic on wikipedia and apparently it is a coronado at an elvis museum....

Mmmmm... looks more like those german sixties colorschemes and toggle swith is also missing

did elvis not use a regular three sunburst?

I've posted pictures of another one in that scheme that was on eBay. Fairly sure it's a factory finish.

Exactly, thats why I seriously doubt this could be a real fender finish for a sunburst..... because it is really

It's real. When they made Coronados the CBS Fender factory workers (who were better trained in making typical Fenders than bound hollowbodies) had damaged the areas around the binding while it was being fitted and so that area was darkened to disguise it on a reddish "sunburst" style model and Antigua was devised as an alternative finish that also covered the damage. Note that the bound F-holes are "bursted" too, that's why.

Also see "maroonburst" or "sienna burst", the sunburst option on second-phase MMs and Duos which was actually sunburst over desert sand bodies

Elvis did have a better looking sunburst one, if they were even his... McCartney says he was sitting on his couch strumming a Fender bass when The Beatles went to his house to meet him so it's possible Fender were sending him all sorts of stuff as they did with a lot of top acts of the '60s.
