Trade my Musicmaster for a MIJ Jaguar?

Post by taylornutt »

I might have a trade lined up and wanted a second opinion.

I have my 1978 Fiesta Red Musicmaster (parts guitar)

I found a guy on CL who has a MIJ jaguar refinished in white

I think the Musicmaster is sexy, I just don't get along with the chunky neck. I love to look at it, but my Mustangs are both ahead of this one. I like the Jaguar but I already have an AVRI Jaguar and a Musicmaster is a more difficult to come by. Is this Jaguar basswood?

Should I trade or should I go?

this guitar won't be anything that you don't already have.

I guess I don't totally understand getting a guitar that is so close to your other guitar BUT if you'll play it more, it's worth trading for.

That is part of my hesitancy to pull the trigger. I don't want to do the deal just to do a deal. On the other hand, the Musicmaster is collecting dust.

you'd be able to sell that jaguar easier than you can sell the musicmaster for.

That was my other thought as well. Mustangs and Jaguars are easy to move compared to Musicmasters.

The guy also has a blonde Squier 51 I might try to bundle with the Jaguar if I go for it .

Can someone look at this for me? I showed a picture of the white Jaguar to my wife and she pointed out what appears to be an elongated upper horn. Is that normal? My Spidey senses are tingling a bit. My AVRI Jag looks nothing like that.

That guitar is too horny. Perhaps it was just pleased to see her?

She's right, that horn is wrong.

Even if it isn't you would be trading away a guitar for a shitter version of one you already have in the AVRI

Thanks guys. I think I am going hold onto the Musicmaster for now. Just not comfortable with that Jaguar.

I will either pursue other deals or maybe rework the neck to be more comfortable.

I'm assuming most of that guise is vintage? I'd definitely keep it, rather than getting rid of it for something new.

also, the fuck's up with that horn?

tbh, i'd at least go play it. maybe he'd tell you why it looked that way, and maybe it's the greatest playing jag of all time. saying it's shit just by looking at a wonky horn is a bit book by it's cover. maybe it's been tampered with, but so had wangstang, etc.

the problem is that you would be losing money if you plan to trade it. That musicmaster would move if you parted it out. And for that matter, it really sounds like you should just try to trade the neck that's on it.

a wanky jag on the other can't really be parted out, as the body is all but worthless, and it's not going to be the easiest guitar in the world to move. I'd ask about the upper horn. It looks like it could be a handmade body.

good call on just getting another neck for the muscmaster ! dew it !

don't trade it for a guitar that is 13 in a dozen. wether it's been messed with or not.

Yeah, definitely avoid this trade.
You have an AVRI Jag, this isn't going to be as good... and that upper horn is a bit worrisome.

While a Jag would be easier to sell in general, if you just wanted to move the Musicmaster, I'm sure there'd be no issues moving it here. We're not really the general public of guitar sales ;)
