I have a new guitar today
As I've mentioned in the diary thread, I've bought a new guitar. Playing loads of semi-hollows in my local shop made me hanker after one again (had a couple in the past, for a while they were the weapons of choice for us Jesus and Mary Chain-obsessed wurzels). I was eyeing up one of the Nick Valensi Rivieras but (guitar heresy alert) I don't think P90s suit me very well; I find they lack a bit of dynamic range - for a clumsy fucker, some of my playing can be quite nuanced (Doog: you may want to pronounce this "nuancéd"). It's slightly embarrasing that it's taken me four P90 equipped guitars to realise this... So, I cast around for nice 335s, and happened upon the above Edwards on eBay. I had an Edwards before (with a P90 hemhem) and it was great - only sold it to raise funds for my Jazzmaster. They're one of the few 335s with a big-ish neck (the Tokais are good further up the neck, but have a really narrow nut), and have good pickups and tuners from stock. Plus he'd already dinged the headstock, so I don't have to worry about damaging it.
And it's fucking great - love it to bits so far. Means I have a nice range of guitars now; tele, tele baritone, Jazzmaster and this one. It also means that I can cop all of Tortoise's guitar sounds and still have a telecaster spare to pretend to be Judah Bauer.
I am, however, trying to gloss over the fact that it's effectively an Eric Clapton signature (small blocks, Grovers etc).
335 is one of 'my' guitars that I just click with. Small nut Tokai is most certainly relevant to my tiny pawed interests.
Unrelated sidenote: nice buy B! Extra mark for Judah Baur mention.
