yet another NGD of the Cyclone kind

Post by kypdurron »

I thought these were RARE and now it's the third in one day

also paid more than 35 $, but also got a real good price on it. Looks sweet, no idea how it sounds ... yet.

Cool looker! I like those apart from the ugly switch panel and its location. Plus the option of have a guard but the pickups are body mounted.. what's that about? :D

Very jealous of this one. I LOVE Cyclone IIs; gorgeous guitars... I like the 3-switch plate and its location; only thing I could take/leave on them is the Strat bridge... would be cooler with a Mustang style trem, IMO. Do an Demo!

That Cyclone II has the same color scheme as my Mustang. Looks so pretty. If you ever sell it, dibs :)

My only issue with the Cyclone II is I wish they would have moved the switch plate down away from the strings and not a fan of the strat trem but I could live with it.

Definitely on my bucket list.

Third Cyclone today? I think I might be having a wet dream.
I have the same guy. I love it. Sold everything else and this is my only functioning guitar right now, and has been for awhile now.

I really dig the style of this guitar. Like a Bastard son of Mustang, Strat, Jaguar and ... something else. It's rather heavy, heavier than most Mustangs, and the finish looks really sweet. I was surprised that the back of the neck is laquered glossy, but the headstock front satin.

original owner said it's original exept for some Kluson Deluxe tuners. Don't know what was originally on it, but the Klusons are fine for me. there's still dust from Ensenada under the control plate. The guitar has some minor issues and battle scars, so far I cleaned it a little bit, replaced a strap pin screw and the tuner bushings, as the one that came with it had a tendency to slip out. Strung it up with 11s and now I need to find my truss rod allen to make a setup. But the good thing, fret wear is not too bad and neck pocket and neck make a perfect pair.

The fretboard seems to be rather wide and flat for my tastes, but after a setup it will play much nicer anyway. Still not plugged it in. Don't know if it's a keeper, so yep, might be I pass it on after some time. Depends heavily on how I get along with it in live situations. The one thing I hate about Strats is to set up the trem correctly. This one seems rather stiff at the moment.

I don't really have any dream guitars, but the Cyclone II is one of the few guitars that I really, really want to have at some point. Everything about it looks like I'd get on with it. It's a whole heap of my favourite things in one guitar.

Ditto!
I fell in love with them when I first saw them (Sloan does an demo)... it's a beautiful mix of features.

I am so tempted to buy a Cyclone . I'm finding a lot of them out there and since I got over my hate of the notorious STRAT BRIDGE... Was considering getting both a 1 and a 2 ..

just gave it a test run. Sounds really different. Close to a Jag, of course, but less jangly and more FAT and on spot somehow. Very different than Teles, Jazzmasters or Mustangs. The more pickups you activate, the more the volume drops. neck is really fat and woody, quite like a good old Jag, bridge is less cutting but more substantial than most Jags.

Switching, yeah, maybe I just turn them around so I don't kill the sound that easily while strumming. Apart from that, it's six different tone options, and none is total crap. Not bad. Really cool they put quality pickups in that thing. Pots didn't really convince me, quite noisy, aprupt and a massive tone drop on the volume pot. Candidates for cleaning, and if that doesn't help they may go.

neck still feels strange to me, though. Not really super nice.

Lots of people seem to love the Cyclone, I didn't like the one I got at all. I had it for about a week. It looked great and was a steal but I hated the neck and the body seemed too thick. It just felt cheap and wrong to me. As an instrument it was totally "lifeless". Same deal as most of the cheap Mexican models. If you can get one for a deal they're always worth the gamble especially if you can gel with it. I bought mine cos it was cheap online, if I'd had the chance to play it first I would never have bought it. Guitar quality can be all over the place, mine was a stinker.

The trat trem was the best thing about it.

Sorry, I didn't mean to rain on your NGD. I only wrote what I did because you seem to be disappointed with it too.

not really disappointed. I played it for about 10 minutes in the bedroom. Cannot expect a guitar in that price range to be perfect at first sight, at least I never found one. There are things I like so far and some I do not. Some I can fix, with others I see if I can get along with. If I can't in the long run, I know I can always get my money back from someone who wants to try one of these, too. So, no problem :) For me that's part of the fun

That's weird with the volume drop. Mine doesn't do that. Hows the pickup heights? I would adjust those and switch out the pots.

Neck PU seems to be screwed in a little deeper than bridge, which makes sense with most guitars. But there's not much play anyway, as there's not much space between strings and pickguard.

I find the combination of the pickups really interesting. The middle pickup is the loudest, and when you combine neck and bridge you get the neck's bass response and the cutting highs of the bridge, but you don't get the kind of hollow sound of a parrallel wiring nor the volume boost of a serial wiring. Seems they are both just ... there.
