Squier Bronco Bass body shape question

Post by montheshakers »

Right chaps i am itching for a Mustang/Duo Sonic, my dad has some mahogany in his garage.
Is the Squier Bronco body the exact same as them? Because that would be the template.
He also asked if there are any other woods which are better than mahogany for a guitar body. I know some old Mustang bodies were made out of mahogany

I dont think it's exact, but its damn close. I have a badtz maru Bronco I refinished and I laid the body over the Mustang template from the templates thread and it was a little off, but that might only be the difference between the American made / Asian made bodies.
No.

Are you certain? The bass body looks quite a bit larger.

I think angle and color make it look so. I can stack them and they seem 100% same.

The size of the body being an exact match is much less important than the bridge being placed correctly so the guitar will intonate and the neck pocket being a good fit for the neck you use.

Mahogany is fine but is quite a heavy wood. Alder or ash are both common choices for body woods but I've heard of at least one guy who made a guitar out of common pine and was very pleased with the result despite the words of warning his choice of tonewood received from some quarters.

Wow that seller has some cool decals/stickers.

As for a (Squier) Bronco bass to make into a Mustang etc.. the neck pocket is way too big for a 6 string neck, it will need modifications on the body, but I'm certain the rest is fine apart from the route for the electronics etc. the bass hava humbucker sized route bridge side.

The CV duo and the Bronco bass do not have the same bodies. You can clearly see that the waist on the Bronco is offset while the CV is not.

You're welcome.

I now agree, there is a slight difference. Look at the contours of the pickguard just south of the smaller horn.

Aye, Bronco has a more pronounced offset than the Duo.
