Have you seen the new Yamaha amps?

The first promo video didn't grab me AT ALL... but this demo makes it look quite nice! Gotta agree, an extension out would be a great addition to the design.

read on web that people have been using the headphone socket to mixing desk etc or just micing them up for live use.johnnyseven wrote:If they had an output for an extension speaker i'd be sold.
I'm very close to getting one... the recording features are ace, I just want to know if they take pedals well - which I know kind of defeats the object of a "modelling amp" somewhat but with it being able to dump the DI and the modelled sounds into a DAW that opens up some subversion I'd like to exploit.
I found a "only used once gov'nor, honest" THR10 for sale on ebay that is down the road from me, I'm so bloody tempted.
Do an demo!!
Can't wait for a review, I'm really considering one of these when I have some money... I'm going back to work Monday, which involves being away from home 5 days a week. Last year I used my Mustang I as both guitar amp and computer speaker... and it kinda falls flat as a hi-fi system. While it's a great little guitar amp, this thing looks like it would fit the bill of what I'm actually using the Mustang for better than the Mustang does.

It works brilliantly as a "hi-fi" system, much much better than any iDock thing I've heard in the past. The sound and clarity are great, no "boxiness" at all with it.Ankhanu wrote:Do an demo!!

As for the guitar side of things, it sounds incredible, way better than any 10 watt "practice amp" I've ever heard. The amp models are fun, especially the JCM800 & Mesa models but I also love the "clean" of the Twin.
Not really tried the on board effects yet but the Tremolo is fantastic, and the "hall" setting on the Reverb is something to die for! You would really swear you were standing in a massive stadium when its full up, I turned it on half way at first and I swore the sound came from behind me, it really is a 3D like projection out of this thing.
Kept taking second looks at it to see if this huge sound was really coming out of this tiny box.
As for the fake orange glow of the tubes, it looks bloody real in reality lol Yamaha have it spot on, I mean like you know when you see old painted metal that has cracked or blistered from heat - I would expect to see that on this amp -- if there was real heat from tubes in there.
I had it down by my feet and unconciously moved them closer to the amp to feel the warmth.
Also another odd thing that you may never have thought of before but hits you when you try it, is that if you play along with you tube vids or anything else that the amp is playing for you, your guitar is also coming out of the same speakers/source. Not a different amp in another part of the room - it really does make a difference and you feel you are part of the track - it's odd, it is just one of those thing you won't really notice until you've tried it.
Sonicstate /Amped review..
Shows off the effects pretty well and a small bit of the AUX in playback, when playing along. (he fails to mention the Stereo Separation technology things can be turned off - not that I can think of a reason you would want to though)
with Shortscale's fav riff at end
All the stuff inside can be altered with, the software you download from Yamaha so you can make up your own unique presets in the amp. Plus Yamaha supply their own "preset" library which you can have a look around and use -- not delved that deep myself yet.
Just itching to play it again as I'm in work now for 4 days

Tried it yesterday with "external" pedals. The first three amp models Clean, Crunch and Lead are ok, the top 2 hi gainers, not so good, pretty much pointless.
One thing I did find though is that when the effects pedals were powered by an earthed power supply such as one of those "Power Bank" things, there was a constant high pitched hum/screech. Tried a non earthed PSU like the BOSS PSA and all was nice and quiet again.
