70's Bassman 50

late 60's drip edge fender cabinet with an awesome old mystery 18" speaker, I'm not sure if its a bassman cabinet or a rhodes cabinet. Got it yesterday for $140 on craigslist

I love my Bassman 50. I played a gig with it last night and it sounded awesome, my Boss Power Driver sounded particularly good. Well worth the one and a half hour drive through London traffic to get to the venue.

Thanks Robroe, I couldn't find anything on it. It looks exactly like that on the inside, I'll post a picture of it next time i take it apart. but there are about 50 screws holding the back on.

if it was a rhodes cab it would probably have two speakers. the suitcase ones had cabs with them, but they ran in stereo.

yeah, the only thing that was throwing me off was the huge speaker, but now it makes sense. It also has 2 threaded holes on the top for mounting a head on it, but they are spaced really far apart. and someone added a peavey PA speaker jack with an attenuator on it, but its not hooked up to anything. either way, it sounds great! On the outside it looks like its in really bad shape, the bottom doesn't have any tolex on it, and on one side its all frayed and hanging loosely, but the inside is totally fine. I'm kind of liking the destroyed look though.

in that era only the showman amps had tone rings, so you have a showman tonering cab, if you ever try to sell it you will likely get a lot more money for it offering up that tidbit in the listing. Also that cab is a 1968 or 1969, the only two years they had shit with the aluminum out ring on their amps and cabs. Cool pick up, great price.

Well, it looks like you got an awesome cab, and now I'm pissed I didn't call on it before you.

Thanks! I don't see myself getting rid of it any time soon, but that's good to know

I know they are heavy ish cabs, i had a dual showman reverb with the 2x15 cab for a while, TONE TONE TONE all day
I miss it and yet i don't at the same time, my set up now is very economical in terms of weight, this way I won't blow out my back walking it up steps to plays shows in dc, which you have to go up steps at almost every venue it seems.

Wow, stories of deals like that keep me on the hunt for some serious vintage gear. I used to own a bassman ten combo. I should kicked square in the ass... :(

Seriously though, congrats!
