As a fan of blocks and binding and a certified Scrooge I'd rather have post-CBS every time.

If you you guys don't mind me asking what does CAR stand for? The 65 does look to be a decent deal like I said if the guitar is still for sale and I have the time I may run down to check it out this weekend.

I am in South Orange county the San Clemente area.

I highly doubt it is a custom shop deal. I would be willing to go about $2000 for that guitar and not a dollar more.

4 = death in Chinese, anyway.
Thanks that made me laugh!!!

Certainly not trying to get into this too deeply. Right now the only instruments I own are 70s Fenders.

OP was considering a 62. All I'm suggesting is that the differences between a 62 and (Jan) 65 are probably negligible. Except one is cheaper. I'm also a certified scrooge.

So I have looked into the custom shop program this week and I have decided I am going to stick with something vintage. The guy who was going to pick up one of my bikes today cancelled and wants to meet Wednesday. Hopefully he is a serious buyer. Also I have made my reservations to fly out to Dallas. We are leaving the 19th of April. If any of you guys are going to be at the show drop me line and say hi.

What did you end up with? After reading everyone's advice and opinions I have decided that I am going to buy the guitar that just feels right when I play it. I have actually held off looking because of the Dallas show in a couple weeks. But as for the whole pre/post CBS deal I am not really going let it control my purchase.

So I made it to the Dallas Guitar Show. There are not as many Jazzmasters as I was hoping and the ones that are here are over priced just like I was warned. I am glad I came it is good to see some old friends that came along. I did find one guitar that peaked my interest and it is a 66 Mustang with comp stripes. It is a burnt orange almost copper color with white comp stripes. It is all original down to the case. By the time I found the mustang I was pretty warn out and forgot to take a photo of it. It seems overpriced to me at $1700 though.

At least I have the chance to see a few vintage Jazzmasters and Jaguars but out of all the guitars I played the Mustang felt the best.

Here are some photos of what I have seen.

The lower horn looks weird to me on this Mustang.

Haha

This Jaguar caught my attention the guy wanted $4500 seems a little steep and the guitar seemed to have some salt deposits on it.

$10,095 Oh my it might be worth it but way to rich for my blood.

I have seen this custom shop guitar online a bunch, it was really cool to actually hold and play it. What an awesome guitar.

I will update things tomorrow I may try and cut a deal on the Compstang. I just need to do some research and find out what a fair price is.

Cheers Boys!!!

The compstang won't be a '66, as they weren't introduced until 1969. Just saying.

I thought the same thing. I own a red Jagstang that was made in the first go around with that guitar. I saw that price and was thinking I could have set up my own booth with just that guitar and still made a killing LOL.

It may be a 69. I was really worn out by the time I found it. I will get a photo of the compstang in the morning tomorrow and post it up for you guys. I think I would buy it of the guy would come down to the $1100 price range. The guitar plays really well. I never thought I would say that about a Mustang but the guitar fits me like a glove.

I only played Fender offsets today. Tomorrow I am going to keep an open mind and try other brands. I have surprised myself by falling in love with the Comptang but I refuse to overpay for anything and I have no idea what a fair price for a nice one is. Like I said before for some reason $1100 seems fair for both the buyer and the seller. I have noticed that the prices on most Hollow body guitars at this show are priced pretty fair. I could end up with the Compstang and a hollow body, then I would just have to figure out how to get them home.

Thanks for the replies I am enjoying getting out of the house and seeing things again!!!

EDIT: I just found this auction on Ebay so I think $1100 to $1200 is reasonable for the Compstang if it is original.
