one mustang switch wiring

Post by Johnny Noir »

i remenbered have seen a topic about but i didn't find it.

i would like to have on only 1 mustang switch: bridge/both/neck
'cause i'm gonna had a second pickup on my broncostang project and i don't use the "out of phase". and i always hit the bridge switch.
i think it's possible?

thanks!

S'funny...I'm considering the same thing for my forthcoming Mustang build! I don't think I want an 'out of phase' setting either, so might go for the single switch configuration.

Since it's a three-way switch I assume it's very much possible...I'm just not sure exactly which lugs to solder which wires to. There are four pairs of lugs, so I'm guessing the outer pairs are what the pickups are soldered to, and the middle two pairs are connected together and form the 'common' connection to the pickups?

Or are they wired up like the Strat/Tele blade switches that have two rows of four lugs?

Is that the factory wiring setup? I had no idea that switch 2 had those properties.

EDIT: No, it's not. Derp.

Yeah that's a good mod, at least when you accidentally flick a switch your guitar won't die like it does on a stock Mustang, which drives me nuts.

THAT SAID, the three-way has a tendency to sometimes die anyway even when used as a 3-way selector switch, if it gets stuck in between notches. It's a quick fix, though, just give it a little push and it'll want to go back to one of the notched positions, and it's less likely to happen than on a stock Mustang configuration.

@HNB and sp3k: thanks. Both of those look like good contenders...the single switch is nice and straightforward and that SD alternative two-switch idea looks better and better the more I think about it. Being able to have quieter and/or mellower sound with the throw of a slide switch would be useful as hell. Not unlike the versatility of a JM's rhythm circuit, only without the annoying loss of clarity with the 1meg-500k transition. Sweet.

I can't take credit for that one. It is from Jag-Stang.com. I used that upper switch for my Jag-Stang and wired the lower switch as a humbucker splitter. It is a neat mod for sure. If you have two switches anyways, might as well make it do something other than look pretty. :)
