Thanks for all the input. I counted the notes in my sock drawer gear fund and it came to just over £500 so there's a big gap between what I can blow with a clear conscience and the asking price anyway. Still...

They also enjoyed a fair few years of steadily climbing. It isn't surprising that with people less likely to buy high end guitars (and you have to consider anything over a grand high end even if a lot of that is due to the age) that ones that have increased a lot in recent years will have their top end disappear first.
I think it is a great price for a Comp Orange Stang. Competition Orange Stangs are very hard to find.Here is a really beatup one that just sold for the same price as the one on Gumtree (Link)

That's $1,623 in USD. I don't know about over in the UK, but here in the USA, that's a pretty darned decent price for an all original orange compstang. Actually, that's about what I'd expect to pay for one with a matching headstock in CAR.
