Here's a very YELLOW Mustang for you. Chopped down guard.

The original shortscale guitars; Mustangs, Duo-Sonics, Musicmasters, Jaguars, Broncos, Jag-stang, Jagmaster, Super-Sonic, Cyclone, and Toronados.

My g/f restores guitars and recently took this one in to bring back to life. (Although I kinda like it)
September '66 that was painted YELLOW and had about as much of the guard cut out as you lose and have it hold everything.
The good thing was that the old screws were put back into the holes. Has the original case and 1 orig. pickup.
She'll strip it an put on a lacquer finish in Dakota Red, what the owner wants and shows traces of in the neck pocket.
I have a Competition Orange, and next to this one, mine looks 1000 shades darker!

New guard, and leave it as is. I'm kinda loving it.

+1. The owner doesn't know what's good for him.

That guard is evidence of a crime. I get the Dakota, but it is a looker. Canary is a Gibson color?

I have not heard of any women doing refins. That is uber coolest. You don't need one with those orange Mustangs.

Whenever I see yellow, in this body shape, I automatically think Cyclone.

It kind of reminds me of the International Series from 1981. The yellow was super-bright like that... Monaco Yellow. Cool color IMHO. I'm not sure if they ever used the International colors on Mustangs. I don't think they did. Still, with a new or vintage yellowed pearl guard, that would look really cool.

I can dig the idea of doing it in Dakota Red too. Restorations are cool too.

Either White pearl guard and Black solid pickup covers

or better still.... Tort Guard and White Solid Covers.

Job Done.
