450 for CIJ Japanese Jag or 550 for classic player?
Both candy apple red, but the Japanese has got the matching headstock which is an ultra turn on. On the other hand, I wouldn't have to upgrade pickups and bridge on the CP. Which has a bigger neck/ which would you buy/ why am I typing this while 90% asleep? fuck

Neck size will depend on age of the Japanese guitar. I believe, but may be wrong, around 98 they moved manufacture if the Made in Japan models (MIJ), and renamed them Crafted in Japan (CIJ). From what I gather, the MIJ models have skinnier necks, and the CIJ have thicker. I played a CP Jazzmaster the other week, and the neck wasn't too thick, but felt thicker than a AVRI.
If it was me, the Jap one all the way. Cheaper, matching headstock, and money left over for pups if you want.

Japan for the 7.25" radius and matching headstock
Do you care about tremolo placement? Classic player will have the tremolo moved closer to the bridge and the Japan will have the traditional placement.

I'm not going to sweat the trem placement: if I get the Japanese I'm definitely going to get a mustang bridge for it. I've played a CP before and liked the feel and sound, I just don't want to miss out on the mij if it's a better guitar and I'm not really going to get a chance to play both and compare.

I'd get the Japanese one for the vintage radius and matching headstock. You can swap bridges and pick ups fairly easily but it's not so easy to sort out a matching headstock...
Plus, it's cheaper so you would have extra cash for any upgrades you felt necessary (I'd play it first before deciding what, if anything, needs changing).

I've had both (CP, and MIJ). It's going to come down to what feels best to you. Some players just do not gel with 7.25" radius necks. Me?, I had no problem with the necks on either the CP, the '90 MIJ I had (back in 1990), or my late and lamented '66 CIJ Reissue. But, I will agree that the pickups in my CP were much better than the pickups in either my 90 MIJ (which were kind of wimpy sounding, and horribly microphonic), or my CIJ, '66 Reissue (which sounded kind of shrill - at the time I sold it due to a money crunch, I was seriously looking into replacing the pickups).
