What's your ideal collection of practical guitar variations?

Wasn't sure where to stick this thread. It's kind of hard to define what I mean: What I'm getting at is if you could have a collection of guitars to cover all variations that you might find useful - whether tuning or functionality - what would they be? Choose ONE per variation. I do not mean list every guitar you want - each chioce must have a specific function or tuning etc.

I would like a collection of guitars that cover:

Baritone - Jaguar Special edition (singles and sunburst)

Bass IV - Not a Bass IV though as I don't really dig the looks.

Shortscale Bass - maybe bronco or stang

Octave guitar - Any mini version of a Fender would be LULZOR

Mandocaster - Although not an actual mandocaster. I want a jagstang shape body and proper 8 strings.

Drop C Tuning guitar - I was really into my Tele that had those GFS Boomers (Zakk Wylde types) with thick bass strings. Was Kewl.

A 'classic rock' guitar - Les Paul type Lemon drop, possibly the Vintage Peter green model pimped with bareknuckle PG pups.

Widdly Floyd superstrat - Probably the silver Satriani Ibanez or the pimpied Herman Li version.

Diddly Bow - Gots one, DIY style. ENORMOUS fun

Slide guitar - Probably go for some old guyatone or Kay type affair as the action doesn't matter.

A fretless bass - Shortscale.

A fretless guitar for shits and giggles. probably sTANG

I've about got my needs covered:

1. No-nonsense gigging guitars. Two of. Currently a Tele or Esquire and stripped down Strat.
2. Metal guitars for whammy fun and teh shredz. Two Jacksons and one BCR.
3. Offset guitars. Because i like how they look and feel, Jag and Jag-Stang.

Never been bothered with slide, dont play bass or any of that mandolin or acoustic type malarky either. Its all meat and potatoes here Dave

My current line-up is 2 standard Fender scale P90 (see CP JM) pickupe'd guitars, one in standard tuning and one in open A and one shortscale with high power humbuckers, tuned C#-G#-C#-G#-A-C#. All with trems.

I use the JM in standard tuning for all my garage punk compositions, the JM in open A for the dreamy pop fun-funs and the Hagstrom in weird C for general Noisegrind/evil duty.

If I were to add a guitar to my lineup, I think I'd make it a thin sounding single coil bridge type guitar because none of my guitars can cop that vibe, since I sold the Cyclone II. Thinking of eventually filling that gap with a standard Telecaster or a Jag...

i wouldn't mind having a baritone just to muck about with but i'm not sure i'd use it in any practical application.

Ooh, I've been thinking about this!

WAR HORSES: good to have two, if you're gigging.. Used for my main tuning. Teligula, and Pink Tele. I also have a substitute War Horse, The Tele Deluxe reissue.

TREMWORK: Jaguar. Jag also can sub for a War Horse.
- these four guitars can be tuned a few ways, depending on the set or session's demands.
BARITONE: "The Beast" Squier tele custom II with Warmoth conversion neck.

12 STRING: Schecter Stargazer 12.

BASS: Mustang with flatwounds, for deep toans. Also have a KILLER Squier CV Jazz Bass for Clanky bass (if it ever comes to that)

BASS VI: Schecter Ultra VI. (also some day I will learn how to play this thing)

VINTAGE THING: 66 Coronado II. Some day I will calm down enough to play the gorgous woody clean tones and utilize a bigsby.

I've got my needs covered and then some. My wants however.

If I was going to strip it right down, then:

Les Paul - fer teh humbuckers & rawk

Mustang - for singles

Jazzy - alt tuning 1

Tele deluxe - alt tuning 2

Gordon Smith - for the simplicity

Musicmaster Bass - for, erm, bass

I have Fender single coils, humbuckers, and an electric 12-strang, a bass and an acoustic. Very tempted by something with P90s. Or at least 1, like the MP Marauder. A double-neck could be useful, actually, 2x 6-string in different tunings.

I think I've got all the basis I need covered, I wouldn't mind something single coilsy something like a jaguar or jazzmaster. But as it is I've got a pretty versatile set.

Never heard of these before: Melobar double-neck, 6 and "lap steel"! The lap steel at 45 degrees to the body makes it look like Escher designed it

Oh, my Lindert is my avant-garde guitar, we all need one right? An aluminum neck Kramer would have been nice but they are a bit too pricey.

One pickup RAWK machine: Hondo All Star with tele neck.

All rounder: Pink mustang with jag trem (needs a pickup change and a vol pot replacement)

No nonsense bass: Schecter P Custom

active bass: Thunderbird Pro/Schecter Stiletto

My ideal collection would look something like this:

.: Jaguar, bound+blocked w/ vintage or vintage-voiced pickups - Good versatile all-arounder, with the gentle vibrato action... My go-to guitar guitar

.: Strat w/ neck+bridge switching; maybe something along the lines of a modded Aerodyne
.: My Aerodyne Telecaster is pretty much the perfect Tele for me, I'll keep it around

.: A double humbucker semi-hollow; something like a Godin Montreal (with the gold replaced with chrome)
.: Mustang for the out-of-phasies and vibratoez
.: Electric XII; a Fender XII, Burns Double 6, or Schecter Stargazer 12

.: Bass VI, probably a Schecter Ultra VI, modified with single-coils, a high-pass filter and a Bigsby B5

.: Baritone; something with single coils

.: Fender Jazz Bass
.: Rickenbacker 4003
.: Godin A4 fretless
.: Fender Mustang Bass

The ones I already have fill most of the gaps for me, but there are a few left on the wish list:

Super-Sonic - bread and butter electric
Bronze Series Mockingbird - for drop D and heavy lifting
Ovation Balladeer - acoustic/acoustic-electric
Some Samick bass - full scale bass

I could also see adding a short scale bass for comfort's sake (and I will, very soon), a hollow or semi-hollowbody for teh jazzez, and something ridiculous with a Floyd for teh metalz. And a Swinger just for fun.

The only variation I'd like to have that I don't already at this point is a baritone. I think I'd be happy with a dano, or a les paul type. I'd probably use it for surf leads and with a capo/drop tuned for Soundgarden or SLIPKNOT MOTHER FUCKER style riffage.

This is my eventual lineup. Seems like a lot for just dicking around. This includes mostly maple necks. Both mahogany necks have already been broekd. Am still curious about Gretsch Dynasonics. They look like little engines.

Single coil

P90 variations
Gretsch Jet--mahogany; Dearmond
Jazzmaster

Hamburger
Les Paul--mahogany; Gibson patented
Tele Deluxe (Seth Lover WRHB)

Hollow body
White Falcon--Supertron = low gain
Mosrite Celebrity--P90
Fender Coronado--Dearmond

Have other variations like SG with mini-hums, but am not keeping it. Same with Fender XII (Curtis Novak 3x3), Ric 360.
