I always thought that Prince's one was a Höfner or Hohner? Or were they just branded differently?

Yes,his guitar is HS Anderson Mad Cat that was re-branded as a Hohner. There were only about 500 Mad Cats made in total including the Hohner versions.

Hohner made a couple of reissues in the 80's,90's and 2000s:

The one at the top below is the current reissue,the Hohner HTA490 and the one in the middle is the Hohner "The Prinz"(first reissue) the one at the bottom is THe Hohner "TE Prinz"(second reissue)

This company obviously loves tortoiseshell. Not even "good" tortoise shell (not that I believe that even exists), just really, really shitty tortoise shell. I believe anybody who worked on bringing this guitar to the public should be killed with fire and potentially nuked from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
