Classic Player Jaguar pickups?

Post by MISSINGNO. »

Just bought this Fender from Sweetwater and am waiting its arrival. I've played these several times before and dig them a lot, but I could never jive with the pickups much.

I play an AC30 type amp, planning on getting an actual AC15 soon, so that takes care of the amp side of the equation, happy with that.

As for pups, I've been looking at the Antiquity II set, but have never found any good samples or clips of them in action.

Definitely want to retain the glassy like Jag sound and want more vintage output, so they're not driving the front end of my amp so hard. Any suggestions?

Thanks guys!

I replaced the shit-ups on mine with the AV set and never looked back; same with my CP JM.

Great, cheap upgrade for the CP Jaguar...

Sorry, completely unrelated, but AVJ, you have a M.A.S.K. avatar. You are the coolest person I will interact with today

Thanks

Good eye! I love me some M.A.S.K.

I can't remember what was truly happening in the scene in my avatar, but I was watching an episode on DVD and paused it for a leak. When I returned, I found great comedy at the thought of kind-hearted Bruce Sato giving dear Scott a spanking with his full approval while T-Bob presumably does whatever robots do to masturbate. I photographed the scene with great care and somehow decided immediately that this was an image I wanted to next to my mostly-serious words on my favorite internet guitar gear nerd-out zone.

But yeah, fuck those CP pickups -- the whole lot of them.

I like the CP pickup more than the AVRI. I thought they were pretty bold, in your face and quite well rounded.

AVRI Neck p/up = dead a wooly
AVRI Bridge p/up = Shrill & nasty

Not for me. They don't interact to well either, but just my opinion.

From what I heard, I'd go for Novaks, Lollars or Pickup Wizards for the vintage 'ting.

AVRI Jag pickups are awesome, but just wondering if anyone here has ever put a hot rail in a Jag? Would that even work?

I stuck a hotrail i had lying around in a mates Jag, used the bass cut switch for a coil split and it sounded amazing. Split it still sounded like a Jag (i suppose because each coil on its own is about the same output as a Jag pickup) and when in full humbucker mode it was like turning on an overdrive! Was nice and fat but still had some "chime" to it, the 1meg pots really helped with that i'm sure.
