Can't remember if they came out with the modern player Jags and stuff (because they're Teles and I don't pay attention to Teles anymore, HAH) but if they're in the Modern Player series then they're made in China. I can't remember if they're basically made in the Squier factory and just badged as affordable oddball Fenders or what, but the Marauder is in that series and all the stuff I've played is top-notch, just like the other Squier stuff.

I think they look alright, actually. I like the metal humbucker mounting ring. Slightly offsets the piss/shit colour choices.

Technically a great pickup combination. Fat bridge sounds, nice middle pickup, and a neck pickup where the polepieces will actually line up with the strings.

Same range- $399

Yeah. they're part of the Modern Player series... and as Ekwatts said, same factory as high end Squiers.

They're bloody brilliant though !! Especially the one at the top. Coil tap and belly contours, and even slightly more rounded on the strumming arm edge area. Strat middle p/up etc etc...

Love telling customers that the 'Fender' guitar they love and are about to buy is essentially a 'Squier', or vice versa.... it gets a whole range of reactions... especially when they've already told you they wont buy a Squier.

I'm pretty sure I'll get one eventually... they remind me a lot of the Mogwai Tele.

Not tried any, but I believe these are the first Chinese made Fenders to come badged as a fully fledged member of the fender family.
If the quality is there I see nothing wrong with them. I did see a couple in a local shop, and the finish on them certainly seemed nice enough.

they're really cool guitars.

Feel exactly like the classic vibe series, they just have a Fender logo.

I guess it's not altogether ugly.

Drop the mid pickup, get a mint guard, black Robroe the pups like a set of Laces and you can do an Chonny Greenwooz.

BPB is fantastic, reminds me of faded pre-CBS burst.

I'd Greenwood Plus it up proper though. There's nothing Modern Player about a regular tele neck pickup, unless they used that TWIZTED one.
