Are Jaguar & Mustang necks interchangeable?

Are Jaguar & Mustang necks interchangeable?

Post by Armchair Bronco »

I've got a 65RI Mustang with a 7.25" radius neck and a Classic Player Jag Special HH with a 9.5" radius.

Just curious whether these two necks are interchangeable. The next time I swap strings, it might be fun to swap necks assuming that the neck pockets are the same on both guitars.

Only issue you might run in to is the Japanese necks are slightly thicker than US and Mexico ones so a Japanese neck might be a little wide for the pocket of a Mexican or US body. :) Not hard to fix with a little sanding.

Well, someone on HC said the necks can be swapped around so I'm gonna give it a shot next time I change strings. Nuttin' to lose, I figure.

The have the same scale, but not the same radius. Therefore when you put the 9.5 radius jaguar neck on the Mustang with vintage radius bridge, the strings will not sit the same heights they did before. You might be able to adjust it but both guitars will have to be set up in order to accomodate this neck swap.

I would leave them where they are. You would probably need to swap the bridges as well and I don't think it's worth it.

If you swap, then probably just a radius issue to sort out. New bridge or file the saddle slots. No biggy IMO.

I've done it on my own Jag in fact will no ill effects...

I just measured my Mustang and my Jag necks ... They'd be interchangeable . In fact they look VERY similar . Both Japanese Fenders though . I would think they'd work . Japanese or Mexican..
