The guys ad seems like he knows it's fake and is trying to play it off. All of his pics seem so convieniently make it hard to see the truss rod cover, binding etc..

The ad SCREAMS fake with the whole "passed down form my grandpa" line... and the "Historic custom shop" case... if his grandpa gave it to him, would it really be considered historic? But the more i look at it the harder it is to find anything fake, based purely on those pics.

It's been removed, but I usually look at the bridge (and studs/inserts), binding (nubs or no?) and pickup polepieces size/shape to determine if it's a Gibson or not. This doesn't account for refrets/replacement pickups though.

The difference between a generic asian 3-way and a switchcraft one is pretty obvious too once you've seen both a lot. Both the switch itself and the grommet/washer around them are different sizes and shapes.
