The tailpiece on that guitar looks like a modified version of the tremolo on my Fender Coronado II and a Mustang. Very Cool. I like how it has Fender on the flattened tube. I wish the Coronado had that.

I love the look of lucite/acrylic guitars but like benecol said- they tend to weigh a ton. I have to use a really wide strap with my BCR Mockingbird to distribute the weight, its also more comfortable higher on the strap.

This particular guitar was made of Lucite for trade-show purposes. By using new synthetic materials, designers created an ultramodern look for the solid-body electric guitar.

Yeah, as someone who finds a musicmaster just about ok and a jazzmaster prohibitively heavy, I can't even imagine rocking one of these.

I don't know if it's my eyes or my brain or what, but the upper horn on that one looks really odd to me - kind of enormous!

edit: maybe it's the lower bout actually. oh i don't know.

I'm fairly certain the whole thing was eyeballed, being a 1960 one-off for a tradeshow... either that or they just shaved some corners off here and there to reduce the weight/extended the horn to make it balance better, etc... who knows.

The pickguard at the control area is crazy too, though this may have been to conceal a ground wire from the bridge.

the pickups on the JM prototype look like jazz bass pickups. weren't they 7-pole? so yeah probably like the guitar version of jazz bass pickups.
