So, I'm selling off my Emma ReezaFRATzitz ( ) because I've realized I need a more mid-heavy, fuzzy main dirt sound. I'll be stacking it with a whiteface spec RAT.
The green muff has my upmost attention. But these things are hard to come buy, and often seem to be in shitty condition (battery doors always missing!)
So, I'm wondering what you guys can give me as alternatives. I'm considering the Blackout Effectors Musket, an EH Tone Wicker Muff (cheap!), or even sending Mike an e-mail to see what he can fix me (waiting times?).
I'm impatient! The idea of having no high gain until then... I'll have to think about it. I'd love to get a good deal on an EH one, but they're a bit big...
The new Bass Big Muff was modeled directly after the Black Russian and is almost the same in the standard mode. It's basically an American made Russian Muff.
I would check with Fredric Effects as well. I have heard Tim's work is great though I have not purchased one yet.
The Big Muff Pi w/ Tone Wicker is a good option to keep in mind, can sound a little bit fizzy if you have got high output pickups and the sustain is turned up. I just bought one to keep s an alternative to my RBMP.
Way Huge Swollen Pickle? Them seem to be relatively inexpensive to buy, not as cheap as a Tone Wicker Muff but far more tweak-able. That said i really like my Tone Wicker Muff.
A Boss HM-2 is Muff-ish in character and allows you to dial in the mid range I love them.
This. Swollen Pickle is awesome. Just make sure if you get one to check the internal trim pots. I became disenchanted with them and then found out about the internal control, felt like a jackass.
If I were after a muff style pedal I'd go for a Black Arts Pharaoh. Seems to have a more useful tone stack, plus clipping options. I'm sure it can match the greens infamous low end too.
Also, pretty cheap. Although maybe not importing into the UK?
The Musket is real good. Sounds great and has extra controls, so it can sound like a bunch of different style muffs, but i think it's based on a Russian. I have a Musket, a Tone Wicker, a Stomp Under Foot Rams head, and a Black Russian Muff, but i use the Musket. Downsides of the Musket--no battery and the extra controls can present too many options if you can't leave the knobs alone. Plus a little pricier. I have a couple made by mike pedals too & they're great too, but I don't have one of his muffs to compare.
