Line 6 DL4 fail and fix

Post by NickS »

The Line 6 DL4 arrived from George and I eagerly plugged it in yesterday: it worked for about 20 minutes and then went zombie, echo continued but no lights, not responding to the switches. After unplugging/replugging power it didn't do anything other than pass through.

I PM'd George but had to go out. He Googled and pointed me to a potential solution I hadn't spotted. There was a helpful post on ultimatemetal.com (and it wasn't the one from someone called SLAON that can be paraphrased as "Google for it") which despite having a tenuous grasp of electronics ("What you're actually doing is removing static build up in the DL4's chip.") was the solution; re-seat the little EPROM you find when you take the base off. So, thank you Matt Amelung.

IT WORKED FOR 20 MINUTES SO ITS NOT MY FAULT NICK BROKE IT

But no, I even thought I'd scammed you when I got your message. I'd barely ever used it and only with batteries: literally for one day, flattened them by leaving it on overnight so put it back in it's box, forgetting to ever buy a psu.

So yeah, in my uneducated opinion I think it's something to do with taking a psu for the first time. Fuck knows (but it seems to happen to lots of owners). Glad you got it sorted

Might I please draw your attention to my other wonky pedals in the Classifieds now? All guaranteed to last at least 20 minutes.

Hey, George is A Top Bloke with superior Googling skills who sold the DL4 on a decent bro-deal. I was just drawing your attention to an easy fix for some DL4s that I didn't spot in my Googling, and the fact THAT SLUT SLOAN WILL POST ANYWHERE, INCLUDING BRAINDEADMETALFREAKS.COM.

BAN SLOAN if anyone!

Almost as if he knew exactly where to look for the fix (IE. HIS BROWSER HISTORY).

Candidate for the JANHAMMER.
