So stripping the body caused me to find some interesting things. There was a thin layer of wood on the top and bottom of the body that came up with the paint.

The guitar belonged to a punker before me and had anarchy symbols and shit on it. It really looks good, man. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
It sounds like they were laminated top and bottom from the factory. For the sunburst ones it makes sense with an eight piece body) but not for a solid color. I guess they just pumped them all out the same. LOL I guess this means this one will be slightly thinner. I might keep some of the paint in it. Funny thing, Fender sprayed the CAR finish over the shielding paint... LOL Crazy Fender.

Could be cool. Would be better if someone made a new body though unless you like the cutting board look. As my woodshop buddy would say "this is a solid color finish body."

If the pieces look nice, I've got no issues with the cutting board look. Obviously one or two pieces would be best, but the right cutting board one would be fine by me.

Yeah, I'm sure this is whats up.
On a lot of CIJ guitars (Jags/Jazzmasters) the sunburst ones were alder while all the other finishes were basswood.

I have a couple 3M sanding sponge/blocks I like to use. Not very rough stuff. Maybe 600 or higher? I like the sponge because it is fast and does the curves well without changing the shape.

Surprised they didn't laminate those ones. I heard blacktops and maybe classic player bodies are laminated like this. I saw a build thread somewhere where a person was stripping the body and found the layer like I did.
While I waited on the body to dry to get it's white on, I worked on getting some of the misted white spray paint the punk (previous previous) owner managed to get on the headstock while painting the body.. No idea how that freaking happened. LOL It actually came up pretty easily. I will do between the tuners when I wetsand the body.
It wasn't bad, but I didn't want anyone to see that and think it was ME being sloppy with white paint. LOL I wouldn't ever paint a body with the neck on...
) Never seen a body made of so many boards.
