BJ Blue Intonation Help Needed Page 2

Post by HNB »

I have this stratocaster that I really like. It is mexican made with a shielded swimming pool route. I am going to take the lollars out and put them in my cyclone.

I ordered a new parchment pickguard for the guitar today. Not going to go the sticker route, but it will have a black bridge humbucker at an angle ala:

Middle and neck will be Jag-Stang neck pickups. Should be interesting. The lollars are going in to my Cyclone. The bridge humbucker is a Hot Duncan Designed bridge humbucker from a BT Jazzy.

I initially named this guitar Billie Joe in honor of the above guitar and because my son's name is William Joseph. (Not because of Green Day though. My dad's name is Joe and I like the name William.)

It will be like if Billie Joe did not have a sticker fetish and took better care of his guitar. LOL

The one I have has a rosewood neck that feels great. Since he swaps necks out a lot, I figure it would still work. I do love me some maple though.

I got my metric screws for the pickups. Just need to finish wiring and get strings.

Upon further research, I am totally mistaken. All incarnations appear to be maple. You are totally correct... but I don't have a maple, so rosewood will have to do. (Plus his wasn't Fender either anyways.) :)

He did have two or three Fender Blues before his Gibson phase, as they copied his Fernandez neck (after his tech told him "last time I refretted Blue there wasn't much wood left") to make him some more durable stage guitars. They interest me because, like the Fender EVH guitars, they demonstrate Fender knocking themselves out to one-up a cheap copy of their own design.

And another one here which has a lefty trem for some reason... teh SRVz?

I think it's really cool that he's had that one guitar for the entirety of his career...the guitar I had when I was 16 was subjected to so many botched repair/mod jobs the neck is the only bit that's still in half-decent condition!

I've heard good things about Fernandes...in the same way that Bacchus make awesome basses that are even better than the Fender designs (I saw a 33" scale J-bass on their site that looks gorgeous!). The fact that 'Blue' has survived two decades or so of Green Day tours and recording sessions is a good advert for the brand's build quality really.

That is really cool info. I had heard he had some different clones made because his original was getting too worn out/beat up. :)

Redid the wiring. Decided to go with 500k pots because of the bridge humbucker. I also fixed the middle pickup so it will be in phase. Just needs strings. :)

Looks great!

I'm not ashamed to admit that they were one of the first bands whose songs I learned to play when I was starting out too. Green Day, Nirvana and pre-'97 Oasis were pretty much all I could do for the first year or two. Good memories. :)

Totally. Nothing wrong with those. They are simple and catchy. I am pretty much in the same boat. :)

LOL Just got a trade for my Rosewood neck. This will have a maple neck on it soon. (Saw a trade post from a buddy looking to swap some strat parts, and his maple neck was one of them. :))

Here is my Fernandes. It was black when I got it in the late 90's. The pickguard is not partcment. Billie's is an 8 screw hole like all 80's Fernandes. Sad to say I sold it recently after finding all the stickers from the 90's that were on his. Some Guy stole all the stickers off of my photonucket. He added a few inaccurate stickers and is selling the files. If you're looking for them just Google Billie's stickers and look for 51 blogspot.

Nice. :) Sucks that that the guy is selling stuff you had up. :) I don't think I will do the stickers. (Right now I can easily change it to more traditional Strat if I want.) :)

Thanks. :D Part of me wants to grab stickers and go crazy, but the other part of me wants to keep it nice. I guess stickers come off. With those images did you just take them to a print shop and get some decals made?

I used some scaling software (bigprint) to get the dimensions accurate, and took them to fed ex/Kinko's to have them printed.
