NPD Way Huge Fat Sandwich

Yesterday, I went to the local GC to see if they had the new Squiers in, which they didn't, but they did have a gorgeous Rickenbacker 12-string, which would be the second time we saw a Ric there, the first time being a 4003. I decided to check out the used section and saw the Fat Sandwich sitting there, cheap as hell, looking pretty. So I asked to take it out and try it and was impressed. I would say I like it better than my Turbo Rat.

I bought it, took it home and played with it while I tweaked the inner pots for a couple hours, then put it up against the Turbo Rat. I can get a pretty similar sound out of both. With the gain all the way down on the FS, I got a similar sound the the gain at noon on the TR, and the gain from noon-max on the FS sounded pretty much the same as a cranked TR. That's really the only downfall of the Fat Sandwich, is the limited gain range. You can go from slightly saturated distortion to really saturated distortion. But it doesn't get harsh like my Turbo Rat does, it stays fat and beefy, even with the tone and presence up.

All in all, it's a kick ass pedal, and go for pretty cheap used, which is good considering their $180 price tag new.

I used to have one of these, I really liked it and had it for quite a while which is unusual for me. Can't remember why I sold it though.

I twiddled around knobs some more today, and turning down the Presence knob to anything before noon, the Resonance knob to 8 o'clock and the Distortion all the way down, turns it into a nice mild crunch, which is nice considering the mass amounts of gain it normally has.

I always liked the amount of tweakability put into these pedals, the aesthetics don't hurt either. Party ohhhhhhhhn.

Part of me still wants a Swollen Pickle, but Beneeeeeecol said the reissues were crap. One day I'll try one out and prove him wrong..

I've seen them at the GC, I'll go back again soon and test it out to see for myself. From what I've heard, they're good. They're definitely more versatile than a regular Big Muff, with the adjustable scoop and crunch. If its anything like the Fat Sandwich, I'd imagine that its a pain in the ass to tweak the knobs till you gat a sound you like.

you're probably right. I had one, and the only sounds i kind of liked were close to the nyc muff sounds, and i don't like nyc muffs that much...

Nice score with the Fat Sandwich, I love those Way Huge pedals. First I've heard of the Swollen Pickle RI being shit though, which makes me a sad panda.

Tried it on my hybrid (Contender) and my solid state (Fender Frontman 25R A.K.A. POS ice pick amp) and the SS did not like it at all, sounded way too fake. This might be due to the fact that the Fender Frontman 25R is icepicky as all Hell, even with humbuckers. The Contender loves it. I can get a similar sound out of the Fat Sandwich as my Contender cranked up all the way, which is pretty awesome.
