NBD - 1983 Peavey Fury

A few weeks back, there was an ad in the classifieds for 2 basses (a lefty and a righty) and a bass amp... I could recognize one of the basses was an old Peavey from the 70's/80's (I thought it was a T-20) - which I love. So I emailed him offering to buy just the one bass. He declined, so I replied with "my offer stands if you need it"

Fast forward to today - he offered me the bass. For $40, since it's missing a tuner. So I ripped it away from the sellers hands and drove home with a stupid grin on my face. It's got several few dings, including one on the fretboard, but for $40 I just don't care.

I've already ordered the missing tuner ($20), so all it needs is a thorough cleaning, new strings, and it's good to go!

Pretty cool. Kind of like a pointy p-bass. What is that pickup?

It's a Peavey Super Ferrite. My T-15 came with them and I loved them in a guitar. So far so good in a bass (with only two strings and through a guitar amp) - kinda growly.

Maybe 6-7 lbs. Not an unbearable amount.

Man, I've never seen these before but it looks cool as fuck.
+1 with Nick on the pickup surround... you so rarely see designed shit like that anymore on things like pickups, (meaning that it's a proprietary pickup/ring design from the manufacturer with some flair to it). PRS have gone slightly different with sucked-lozenge bucker rings/squared-off bobbin edges as of late, but it's still not a huge departure from the uncovered PAF.

Really cool bass !! Bargain too....

If it was mine I'd consider syringing some glue in the headstock crack and clamping it ?

It's actually designed like that- it's a two piece rock maple neck. The two halves are cut, the truss rod is inserted, and then it's glued together. My old T-15 was made the same way.

the T15 had the same issue, though - albeit, after I dropped the neck - you can see where the glue joint has started to separate on the headstock.

I had a better opportunity to look at it today, and when I have the neck taken apart to clean it up, I'm definitely gonna glue the headstock back together. I was able to slip a piece of paper through, so that need to be taken care of.

Also, I finally played it through a proper bass amp for a minutes this morning at my bass player's house - and it sounds great. He already wants to steal it from me!

small update... dropped the bass off today at the friendly neighborhood luthier, to have the neck and headstock reglued, and have the electronics cleaned up.

My local GC has a natural T-40 in beautiful condition for $325. They are definitely on my eventual bass want-list (along with an Ovation Magnum and Rickenbacker 4003).

Small update once again. The neck is ready to go, and the electronics were given a quick one-over. All that was wrong was a ground, so that was resoldered and she is good electronically. The missing tuner arrived in PR today, so it should be delivered tomorrow or the following day. I guess I need to pop over to a music store and get a set of bass strings.

Oh, and I got a bass amp to use (kinda needed one). An Eden Nemesis 210 for $100... not bad.
