What to do?

Post by Bloodbank »

Damn.

I was saving up for a japanese Jag but then these Squiers came...
Now I don't know what to do, get the Squier VM Jag or save up some more for a japanese one?
Is the quality difference huge between these two?

Get a Squier. The one I tried earlier this week was on par with my Japanese Jaguar.

Buy the Squier.

Try some Japanese Jags, if you like them more you can just source one of their necks for the Squier. BAM: Japanese Jag. The only real big difference that affects playability is probably the fingerboard radius.
The Squier option presents you with more colour choices and non-microphonic pickups as standard.

If you want the real deal get the real deal . If you want a thrasher get the Squier. There's a pretty big difference between the Fender and the Squier . The Squier is good but it's no Fender .

I was in exactly the same situation. I got the squier, mainly because I couldn't really justify the the fender price tag.

I'm pretty happy with it, but it is a £250 guitar, and you can kind of tell. I have a Squier jmjm, and it's considerably better built and finsh quality to the squier jag. I think the playability and the sounds are certainly on par with a mij, but the finish and built quality are nowhere near it. Probably a bigger consideration is the fretboard radius. The squier feels markedly different to my mij mustang, and it mainly due to the neck/fretboard.

That's not to say you'd be disappointed though.. Get the squier, and you can spend another 300 euros on pedals

I would go Japanese. The squier is amazingly priced considering what it's attempting to be, but not on par with Japanese. The cool colors are the only thing they have going for them based on the nags and jazzies I tried out. Just my opinion though.

The Squiers are great but there's no shame in spending a bit more if you're going to enjoy having the Fender, especially if you plan on keeping it for a long time.

I would go with the Japanese one. I have no problem with Squiers, but I just feel like the Japanese one would have better quality. Squier is doing excellent things for people on a tight budget and their stuff sounds very good. I have seen and heard them, but they are just not the same to me. It is a taste thing though. Try a Squier out in a store. If you like it, buy it. :) What does the name and such matter anyways other than resale. It is an instrument. If you like how it sounds and feels, that should be enough. :D

Oh and my Squier is an old 80's SQ Serial Squier Telecaster from Japan. Love it to death.

My opinion would be: go to a shop and play a squier. If you like it, buy it. If not, go for a japanese...
