I saw a few instances of Fender Japan cashing in on the popularity last time I was over there, but sadly the exchange rate was so atrocious I walked away from Ochanomizu empty-handed. There was a leftie J-bass (a Squier iirc) in one of the places but it wasn't anywhere near the quality of the MIM Fenders. There were some drop-dead gorgeous Bacchus basses though.

Oh, yeah: a friend of mine bought a red Mustang because of this show. True story.

Thanks! The Sky LP was $139 with free shipping. Actually yesterday right after i ordered this guitar I got an email from a store in japan. They have the real K-0N! Yui LP with matching hardshell case. Only problem is the exchange rate is so bad it would cost $650 to get it. The exchange rate is $1.00= 76 yen! When did this happen? When I worked in Japan in the 80s and 90s the exchange rate was $1.00= 120-140 yen, lol.

It's possible that they're all drenched in completely non-sexual white goo, as you sometimes fancy as a schoolgirl out there.

Two years?! That's nuts! The one I found looked like an inexpensive copy intended for beginners (the target audience, really) so I assumed they weren't hard to find.

These were everywhere though. My buddy imported the Dakota Red '65 iirc, but the show proved what we all already knew: CAR looks better! :P There's so much choice in specs and finishes on the Japanese market that we don't seem to get from the USA or European catalogues. I was seeing Jazzmasters with matching headstocks, hollowbodied versions...

I'm actually surprised that Fender Japan didn't capitalise on the K-On thing more than they did; you couldn't walk into a comic book shop without seeing ads for it while it was on TV over there. I'm sure JJLipton can vouch for how the franchise is HUGE. Beck it ain't, but it has its moments. Shame the musical aspect wasn't as prominent in the second season, because I got a real kick out of scenes like the live shows where they don't know what they're doing. Considering the audience it's aimed at, the attention to detail in how the instruments are drawn and animated was pretty surprising.

They're in the last two years of high school so I'd say they're between 16 and 18, so yeah...it's the fans who are sexualising it (Rule 34 and all that). The series itself is PG rated on DVD over here; honestly, there's less violence and sexual content/nudity in there than in your average Studio Ghibli movie!

I initially thought it would be like this, a movie I've wanted to watch for ages...if only because James Iha did the soundtrack.
