What are you using?
I just got used '65 RI and I'm underwhelmed with the stock pickups. They sound thin to me and don't handle distortion well.

Black Mullet-Stang- NOS Mustang pickups - Low output and they have that nice vintage sound.
CAR Competition Mustang - Stock neck pickup and Lace Sensor Red in Bridge. It's great if you want a low output and high output in the same guitar. I plan on swapping out the neck pickup for Lace Emerald or other Lace Sensor to better match with the Lace Sensor Red.
Fender Bronco - Unnamed pickup that sounds similar or slightly hotter than a stock Mustang Bridge pickup. It is also set very close to the strings.
J Mascis Jazzmaster | AVRI Jaguar | Tuxedo-stang |Fender Toronado GT |
Squier FSR Sparkle Jaguar | Squier CV Mustang |1971 Fender Bronco| Baja Telecaster |

Why didn't you like the JB Jr?
I was looking at the Fastrack II in the bridge but that might be overdoing it.

No they are not the same this is the problem. I liked the JB in the KC Mustang better.honeyiscool wrote:Does the JB Jr sound anything like the real JB? Because of all the words to describe a full-sized JB, muddy isn't one of them. It's one of the most nasally and phasey sounding pickups I've ever heard.

I had the JB Jnr in a Jaguar and it suited it quite well. The little 59 is my fave single coil sized bucker, it sounds more true to the original.Thom wrote:No they are not the same this is the problem.
