Mustang owners, what pickups are you using?

The original shortscale guitars; Mustangs, Duo-Sonics, Musicmasters, Jaguars, Broncos, Jag-stang, Jagmaster, Super-Sonic, Cyclone, and Toronados.

What are you using?

I just got used '65 RI and I'm underwhelmed with the stock pickups. They sound thin to me and don't handle distortion well.

Lace Purple and Silver. Granted, most of my tone comes from the my amps, but the Laces help me get them easily.

Black Mullet-Stang- NOS Mustang pickups - Low output and they have that nice vintage sound.

CAR Competition Mustang - Stock neck pickup and Lace Sensor Red in Bridge. It's great if you want a low output and high output in the same guitar. I plan on swapping out the neck pickup for Lace Emerald or other Lace Sensor to better match with the Lace Sensor Red.

Fender Bronco - Unnamed pickup that sounds similar or slightly hotter than a stock Mustang Bridge pickup. It is also set very close to the strings.

Why didn't you like the JB Jr?

I was looking at the Fastrack II in the bridge but that might be overdoing it.

I think the same about nearly all humbuckers to be honest. Perhaps I've spend too long with single coils.

Does the JB Jr sound anything like the real JB? Because of all the words to describe a full-sized JB, muddy isn't one of them. It's one of the most nasally and phasey sounding pickups I've ever heard.

I like the 65 reissues, as well.

They sound like Mustang pickups need to sound.

No they are not the same this is the problem. I liked the JB in the KC Mustang better.

I'm about to fit a Lace Sensor Silver in the neck and a Blue in the bridge (just waiting on delivery of a pickguard that fits correctly). Will keep you posted about what I make of them. :)

I had the JB Jnr in a Jaguar and it suited it quite well. The little 59 is my fave single coil sized bucker, it sounds more true to the original.
