I have GAS - Godin A6 Ultra

So after being...let's say "nicely shown the door" from my last band, I've decided that plugging into a 50 watt head through a 4x12 cab and cranking away at 110+ db isn't something I want to do again. Maybe I'll change my mind at some point, but I doubt it. Now I'm way more interested in putting together some instrumental semi-acoustic stuff, maybe finding a singer or keys or another guitar player and just doing chill gigs at coffee shops and open mics.

To that end, I have a huge boner with a cheeseburger on top for a Godin A6 Ultra, especially after watching the demo.

Sounds great to my ears on the demo, but I'm jonesing to go a step further and run the piezo out through an effects chain with delay/flange/chorus/wah/etc. and just run the neck 'bucker out into a Fender Blues Jr. with a touch of reverb. The tone combinations seem pretty limitless.

I don't see any reason why that wouldn't work, but has anyone ever tried something similar? Just wanted to see if I'm not considering something before I take the plunge.

That is a cool guitar. Have you considered other more budget conscious guitars? I've always being slightly underwhelmed by Godin - they're built well but I've always thought they're priced slightly more than I'd want to pay for what I'd get.

This Crafter would definitely be my choice:

That Crafter does sound nice, and the P90 instead of the 'bucker is pretty cool. I haven't shopped around too much because I've owned 3 Godins and was really impressed with the build quality. But now that you mention it, I think I'll broaden my search a bit.

I'm a bit of a Godin fanboy... or at least I was. Most of their designs aren't terribly appealing for my style, but they're wonderfully built, great sounding instruments. I almost made an A6 my first guitar years back, but, even at the low, low price of $500, it was more than I could afford at the time. It was the one with a lipstick pickup, rather than the humbucker. A few years later I made an Exit 22 S my first guitar, which is pretty solid, though I rarely play it now. I absolutely adore the A4 fretless basses, though the fretted versions don't really do it for me. I'd LOVE to get a Montreal

The whole A-series is pretty sweet, wonderfully versatile instruments.

I say go for it ya.

My old A6 (another guitar under the bed at the parents' place) is such an effortless little thing to play, and a neck pickup on the newer models would make it a monster. I had mine strung up with 10-46s and it took so little to dial in a good sound through the little battery-powered Micro-Cube at my sister's wedding back in '08, with some really nice comments about the thing afterwards. It really is a perfect acoustic guitar for live players used to electrics, who want a guitar to sound like a proper acoustic and not a plink-plonking cheapo piezo strummer.

Holy shit Ultra, I might bust out my first "epic pic, duuude" for that one. Reminds me of a microcube (or whatever that amp is called) advertisement.

I have Godin electrics (piezo/preamp) in my Seagull S12+ and consider it nicer-sounding than the bulk of plugged-in piezo acoustics I've heard, this is not an area I've done a lot of field-testing in though.

I hate the cheapo piezo plinky sound, but am confusingly okay with it on an electric guitar now (like a Fishman Tele/Strat bridge). I might just enjoy the idea that we associate that piezo saddle sound with an acoustic guitar SO much that it doesn't even have to be an acoustic guitar to sound EXACTLY like one to the audience anymore. This of course demonstrates why it's such a crap representation of an acoustic guitar sound in the first place though.

Totally agree with this. I really like the piezo sound, but it's nowhere near a properly mic'd up acoustic. I have a Martin for those purposes that sounds great.

I guess besides sound and features, the other thing that attracts me to the Godin is its understated looks. It's simple and clean, but not super eye-catching, especially with the black one I'd be getting. That's more my style.

Only wrench in the works now is having to take one of the cats to the vet today. Once that's taken care of, I may have to put it off a bit until I get whatever bonus I'm getting from work and see how much I can shell out without pissing off the wifey.
