Project One - Jazzmaster parts Project

My Telecaster project is at a standstill right now so I did the obvious thing and started 2 other projects..... OK. Maybe not the best idea, but I had a few bits and pieces knocking about and I want another guitar for taking to practices etc that I don't have to worry too much about damaging/abandoning in the pub. all my other stuff is vintage.

First up is a Jazzmaster. I had that Japanese Strat neck that's vintage spec, its over 20 years old and well worn in so it's perfect for this. It has the smaller style headstock but that's no biggie. I also have a beat up Jazzmaster body, White guard, off-white and black pup covers and a bridge. Essentially I just need to get a trem unit and a couple of pickups and it will be ready to go. I will probably try to get a mint guard for this at some point but the white will do for now.

I'd lean over to white plastic rather than black, but that looks classy as hell. What pickups are you thinking of using?

Oh yeah: check the polepieces and their holes in the pickup covers line up when you get that far. Just a heads-up because I had to file mine out with a box cutter!

Probably just a standard voiced set, with a hotter bridge. I'll probably just see what I can get my hands on and give them a shot. It's just for carting about to practice etc so it just has to work. My current one has a vintage spec custom neck pickup and an AVRI in the bridge. They match up pretty well.

Because I have my Jaguar project on the go and it will be the guitar I take out and about the most this project is more to do with consolidating parts into something useful rather than them just sitting about gathering dust. Tho cos it's full scale it will complement the Jaguar perfectly.

Cool project. I vote for mint guard/off-white pickup covers. I like that combination. I wish I had a beat up JM body sitting around. That's pretty cool that you had enough spare guitar parts to just throw a guitar together like that. Although, if I keep looking at guitar parts on ebay, I just might.

I probably had enough parts to finish this, the Jag and my Tele a few months ago but I ended up trading/giving away bits I thought I wouldn't need. I think everyone on here has been in the same boat as far as that sort of thing goes tho

Yeah, I guess over time you just accumulate parts here and there, so you end up with a few extra guitars.

Lovely. I rarely use the upper circuit so that wouldn't be an issue for me either; I might get out some black or white electrical tape, or a sticker of some sort to cover the holes though.

The wear on the body looks great too BTW - I bet it's perfect for an instrument you're using regularly because you'd be less worried about any extra dings or scrapes! It's also proof of how a matching headstock can look cool! What pickups did you settle on in the end?

I'm actually waiting on a pickup, so it's currently sans pups. It's all set up tho so it's got about 5 mins of soldering to go. It'll have a regular Jazzmaster pup and a Dimarzio Paf.
